Three Seawolves Tabbed Cape Cod League All-Stars

BOSTON - Three Stony Brook baseball standouts have been named All-Stars by the prestigous Cape Cod Baseball League and will play in the league's 2011 All-Star game on Friday (July 29) at Fenway Park. The Seawolves' Pat Cantwell and Travis Jankowski will suit up for the West Division team while Tyler Johnson will play for the East Division squad.

Cantwell, who's entering his senior year at Stony Brook, has caught in 25 games for the Bourne Braves and is batting .253 with 10 runs scored. A first team All-America East selection, Cantwell started 54 games at catcher this season and hit .308 with 14 doubles. He also threw out 16 of 26 would be base stealers which was first in the America East. Cantwell was selected in the 39th round by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2011 MLB Draft.

Jankowski, who earned first-team All-America East honors during his sophomore year at Stony Brook, leads his Bourne in several offensive categories. Through Sunday's action the first-team All-America East selection had team bests in batting average (.333), on-base percentage (.422), slugging percentage (.458), RBIs (21), runs scored (25) and stolen bases (12).

Johnson, a two-time first-team all-conference pitcher, has allowed just five earned runs in eight games, including five starts, for Orleans. The right-hander, who'll be a senior for the Seawolves in 2012, is 2-1 with a 1.59 ERA in 28 1/3 innings of work. A two-time America East Scholar-Athlete, Johnson went 9-3 with a 2.30 ERA in 13 starts for Stony Brook last season.

Stony Brook's three selections were the most from any one school and tied for fourth-most amongst conferences. America East tied the Big East and Big 10 and trailed only the ACC, SEC and Pac 10 with the three selections.

For the first time, Comcast SportsNet New England will televise the CCBL All-Star Game. Eric Frede, the voice of America East, will call the game alongside former Major Leaguer Lou Merlong. The telecast will also be carried on Comcast SportsNet Chicago, Comcast SportsNet California, Comcast SportsNet MidAtlantic, The Mtn and CSS, reaching an estimated 34 million homes.

The premier amateur baseball league in the nation since 1885, the Cape League is recognized as the best amateur summer leagues in the country by college coaches, as well as professional baseball scouts. Through the years, the Cape League has placed nearly 1,000 alumni in the big leagues, including over 200 currently on Major League rosters. Just some of the league's alumni including two-time America League MVP Frank Thomas, CY Young award winners Tim Lincecum and Barry Zito, AL batting champion Nomar Garciaparra and former America East standouts Jeff Bagwell and Carlos Pena.
