CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--Three America East track and field standouts have been honored with Academic All-America honors this week to bring the total of America East student-athletes earning Academic All-America recognition in 2010-11 to seven.

UMBC graduate student Dominic Devaud (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) was named to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America Men’s Track and Field/Cross Country Third Team for the second consecutive year, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Tuesday. On Thursday, University of New Hampshire senior Kaitlyn Duggan (Hatfield, Pa.) earned a spot on the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America Women’s Track and Field/Cross Country Second Team and University of Maine junior Corey Conner (Townsend, Mass.) was selected to the third team.

Devaud earned bronze in the decathlon at the 2011 IC4A Outdoor Championships after finishing second at the America East Championships. He also placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles. He was honored with the Matt Skalsky Scholar-Athlete Award at UMBC’s varsity awards ceremony last May. The 2009 America East Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete graduated in May 2010 in mechanical engineering with a 3.62 cumulative GPA and has a 3.66 GPA throughout his graduate degree work at UMBC.

Dugan, a chemistry major with a 3.98 GPA and a two-time member of the America East outdoor All-Academic Team, placed third in the heptathlon at the conference championships and took fourth in the event at New Englands. Earlier this season, Dugan earned a second-place finish at the Holy Cross Heptathlon with 4,109 points.

Conner just completed her junior year with a 3.82 cumulative grade point average while majoring in nursing. She was named Second Team All-American after placing 11th in the 5,000 meters at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Conner also just missed earning All-American honors as she placed 42nd at the 2010 NCAA Cross Country Championships.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
