Philie Repeats as Men's Lacrosse Fans' Choice Player of Year

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- For the second straight season, University of Vermont's Drew Philie is the choice as America East Men's Lacrosse Fans' Choice Player of the Year, it was announced Monday afternoon. Philie was selected in a fan vote conducted on the conference's website.

Philie, a sophomore attacker for Catamounts, ranks second among America East leaders with 30 goals and is fourth with 42 points this season. The reigning America East Rookie of the Year and a second-team all-conference selection last season, Philie has racked up 98  points in just 31 career games on 60 goals and 38 assists.

Philie, who was one of 12 finalists for the award, received 21.1 percent of the vote, garnering 264 of 1,192 tallies. He was followed by Binghamton's Derrick Danieu (177 votes) and teammate A.J. Masson (170). This was the third year the America East Men's Lacrosse Fans' Choice Award has been handed out. Voting ran from April 25-29 on AmericaEast.com.

The America East Men's Lacrosse Championship will take place this week with the semifinals set for Wednesday, May 4 and the final set for Saturday, May 7. The championship game will be at 3 p.m. and televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.
