Junior all-American Nick Tropeano (West Islip, N.Y.) of the Stony Brook University baseball team earned national recognition last week from multiple organizations. Tropeano is a top-25 quarterfinalist for the College Baseball Hall of Fame's 2011 Pitcher of the Year award as released last Friday. USA Baseball also included Tropeano on the Golden Spikes Award midseason 60-man watch list announced last week.

Tropeano is the only pitcher from the Northeast on the Pitcher of the Year watch list, and is one of just three players from the Northeast up for the Golden Spikes Award.

Tropeano is 9-1 with a 1.36 ERA in 72.2 innings pitched this season. The right-hander has allowed only 46 hits and struck out 93 batters.

The 2010 America East Co-Pitcher of the Year, Tropeano has held opponents to a .181 batting average and has given up just eight extra-base hits this season. He is eighth in the nation in victories, 11th in ERA and ninth in strikeouts per nine innings (11.92).

College baseball's version of the Cy Young Award, the Pitcher of the Year Award will be presented in Lubbock, Texas, on July 3 as part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame's Night of Champions.

The Golden Spikes award is presented annually to the top amateur baseball player in the country. The watch list will continue to be a "rolling list" up until May 31 when 30 semifinalists are announced. The award presentation will air live on ESPN's MLB Tonight on Friday, July 15.
