CAMBRIDGE, Mass.— Four America East track and field student-athletes earned weekly honors after posting conference season-best marks over the weekend. On the men’s side, University at Albany senior Allie Beauvais (Hempstead, N.Y./Hempstead) earned Track Performer of the Week honors while University of New Hampshire graduate student Paul DeTurk (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) took Field Performer of the Week accolades. For the women, New Hampshire senior Erica Jesseman (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) grabbed the Track Performer of the Week award while Field Performer of the Week honors went to UMBC sophomore Amanda Deller (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen).

Beauvais posted a season-best time of 51.87 seconds, the fourth-fastest mark in program history, in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles at the 67th Florida Relays. The senior finished 10th overall in the event and lowered his IC4A-qualifying time in the event.  Beauvais also ran the third leg (400-meters) on the sixth-place sprint medley relay that reached the finish line in 3:23.19 and anchored the 4x400-meter relay to a time of 3:17.39, meeting the IC4A standard and placing 34th overall.

DeTurk placed fourth out of 27 competitors in the hammer throw at the Sam Howell Invitational with a toss of 59.93 meters. The mark is the best in America East so far this outdoor season. The graduate student is the defending America East champion in the hammer throw.

Jesseman finished second in the 5,000 meters at the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton over the weekend. The senior’s time of 16:51.24 set a new school record and is the best time in the event for an America East runner during the outdoor season.

Deller, the defending America East indoor and outdoor champion in the shot put, won the event at the 2011 Colonial Relays over the weekend. The sophomore hit a mark of 14.22 meters, pacing the conference in the outdoor season and qualifying her for the ECAC meet.

University at Albany competed at the 67th Florida Relays on April 1-2. The Great Dane men, ranked No. 3 in the Northeast in the first United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association regional rankings of the spring, were led by senior Alie Beauvais (Hempstead, N.Y./Hempstead), who finished 10th in the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 51.87 seconds. Beauvais also ran the third leg on the sixth-place sprint medley relay that reached the finish line in 3:23.19. Sophomore Tristan Akong (Springfield Gardens, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) anchored the 4x100-meter relay to a time of 40.91, an IC4A-qualifying mark that was just .13 off the school record. Senior Luke Schoen (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) placed sixth in the pole vault with his top height this season of 16’ 7.5”. Sophomore Jonathan Santana (Rochester, N.Y./Edison Tech) ran the opening leg of the 4x400 relay that was clocked lower than the IC4A standard (3:17.39). Santana and junior Nick Santos (Albany, N.Y./Colonie Central) were both members of the sprint medley relay. Santos finished 11th in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.28. Junior Paul Lagno (Salt Point, N.Y./Millbrook) was among three Albany runners who finished in the top 25 in the 1,500-meter run. Lagno ran 3:51.35, just .35 off the IC4A standard, to place 16th overall. For the Albany women, ranked No. 7 in the Northeast, freshman Kathryn Fanning (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) qualified for June’s USA Junior Nationals in the 1,500-meter run as she placed 14th overall with a time of 4:34.02, more than six seconds better than the national standard. Fanning also ran the 1,200-meter anchor leg on the fifth-place distance medley relay (12:02.06). Senior Christen Griffin (Waldorf, Md./Maurice J. McDonough) led the shuttle-hurdles relay to a school-record performance of 57.43 seconds and a sixth-place finish. Sophomore Ashley Mahlmeister (Unadilla, N.Y./Sidney) and seniors Yushanni Durrant (Montego Bay, Jamaica/Mount Alvernia) and Rebecca Kelly (Bayport, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) joined Griffin in breaking a record (57.93) that had stood since 1998. Griffin, who ran a 13.8-second split on the shuttle hurdles’ final leg, also led the 4x100-meter relay to an ECAC-qualifying time of 47.12 seconds. Sophomore Alli Rogers (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst Central) ran on both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. The 1,600-meter relay also qualified for the ECAC Championship with a time of 3:48.25. The Great Danes return to the track at the Texas Relays, April 7-9. Albany will also compete at the UMass Invitational on April 9.

Binghamton University opened its outdoor track and field schedule at the Sam Howell Invitational hosted by Princeton. Sophomore Casey Gilbert (Berlin, N.Y./Berlin Central) highlighted the Bearcat men as he finished second in the 400 hurdles. Gilbert clocked in with a time of 54.05, just ahead of junior teammate Robb Quiller (West Point, N.Y./James I. O’Neill), who finished fourth (55.49). The Binghamton women were led by freshman Alexis Murray (Bellerose, N.Y./St. Francis Prep), who placed fourth in the javelin with a toss of 120’ 10”. Up next for Binghamton is the Cornell April Open on Saturday, April 9 at 10 a.m.

Boston University competed at the Florida Relays and Tufts University’s Snowflake Classic last weekend. At the two-day Florida Relays, the men’s squad, which is ranked No. 14 in the Northeast region, finished in the top 20 in six events, highlighted by the distance-medley relay team’s eighth-place finish (10:13.01). Junior Tewado Latty (Kingston, Jamaica/White Plains (N.Y.)) placed 17th in the 400m dash (47.77), and senior Dan Withrow (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) finished 13th in the discus (47.29 meters) and 16th in the shot put (15.01 meters). The 4x400-meter relay team placed 18th with a time of 3:12.12 and the 4x100-meter relay squad finished 20th (41.37). The Boston U. women also hold the No. 14 spot in the Northeast rankings. The Terriers secured four top-20 finishes, including freshman Rosa Moriello’s (Naugatuck, Conn./Naugatuck) 13th-place finish in the 5,000-meter run (17:19.69). Seniors Sarah Mosser (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) (15th/4:34.73) and Whitney Ford (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) (14th/11.98m) secured top-15 finishes in the 1,500-meter run and triple jump, respectively, while the 4x100m relay team placed 16th with a time of 46.11. At the Snowflake Classic, sophomore Marita Stressenger (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) captured the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The Terriers are back in action at the Texas Relays April 7-9.

The University of Hartford track and field teams competed at the Colonial Relays, a three-day event held at William & Mary University that kicked-off on Thursday. Behind strong performances on the track, the men placed 23rd of 50 scored teams and broke three school records along the way. The women placed 36th of 50 scored teams. For the men, a pair of sprinters had impressive performances as senior Warren Lane (Brooklyn, N.Y./Murry Bergtraum) and junior Anderson Emerole (Jamaica, N.Y./Manhattan Center for Math and Sciences) each scored in the 400-meter dash. Lane placed fifth, the Hawks’ highest finish at the meet, with a time of 49.02 while Emerole turned in a time of 49.17, good for seventh place. Junior Andrew Chalmers (Ashland, N.H./Plymouth Regional) finished 29th in the 5,000 meters, smashing the school record with his time of 14:45.21, erasing the former record of 15:14.46 set last weekend by teammate Jonas Hampton (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove). Hampton also scored a new school record in the distance events when he bettered his 10,000-meter record by nearly 40 seconds (31:45.65) to earn a 15th-place finish. Also excelling on the track was the men’s 4x100 team, which combined for a time of 42.60, a new school record, and claimed eighth place in the event. For the Hawk women, freshman Megan Barry (South Yarmouth, Mass./Dennis Yarmouth Regional) finished seventh when she posted a school-record time of 38:39.86 in the 10,000-meter race. Sophomore Priscilla Appiagyei (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) won her heat in the 400 meters and finished 11th overall (58.40) while freshman Alisha Beeman (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) also placed 11th when she reached 35.38 meters in the javelin. The Hawks return to the track when they head up the road to Storrs, Conn. for the Connecticut Invitational on Saturday, April 9.

University of Maine competed at a non-scoring meet against Bates. The Black Bear men were led by junior David Currier (Sidney, Maine/Messalonskee), who won the 10,000 meters with a time of 31:17.92. Currier’s time ranks among the top 10 in school history. Sophomore Ethan Moore (Weare, N.H.) also earned a win, taking the top spot in the hammer throw with a top-10 school mark of 168’11”. The Maine women, ranked No. 8 in the Northeast region, received a strong performance from junior Jesse Labreck (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee). Labreck was part of the Black Bear’s ECAC-qualifying 4x100 relay team and also took first in the triple jump. Her mark of 40’ qualifies her for the ECAC meet. Senior Alli Krous (Yakima, Wash./Walla Walla Community College) took top honors in the javelin with an ECAC-qualifying distance of 143’ 4”, a top-five mark in school history. The Black Bears head to Durham, N.H., April 9 for a quad meet hosted by America East foe New Hampshire.

UMBC opened its outdoor season at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va., this past weekend. On the men’s side, junior Aaron Brooks (Upper Marlboro, Md./Dematha) took third place in the discus throw with a heave of 47.16 meters (154’9”) and placed eighth in the shot put with a throw of 14.25 meters (46’9”). The trio of sophomore Trae Proctor (Brandywine, Md./Thomas Stone) and seniors Dominic Devaud (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) and Keith Brown (Columbia, Md./McDonough) finished four-five-six in the 110-meter hurdles in times of 14.78, 14.99 and 15.18, respectively. Sophomore Shioma Obemeata (New Rochelle, N.Y./Iona Preparatory/St. Francis College) finished sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.95 meters (45’9.25”). On the women’s side, senior Sara Parkinson (Chorley, England/Loughborough University) finished 12th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:04.22, breaking Karin Wagner’s 26-year-old UMBC record. Sophomore Amanda Deller (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) won the shot put with a throw of 14.22 meters (46’8”). Junior Imani Colbert (Upper Marlboro, Md./C.H. Flowers) finished fifth in the 100-meter dash in a time of 14.56. Fellow junior Kiki Malomo-Paris (Northern Ireland/Glenlola Collegiate School) placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 5.36 meters (17’7”). The Retrievers return to action next Saturday for the Maryland Invitational in College Park, Md.

University of New Hampshire sent a select few of its members to compete at the Sam Howell Invitational. Graduate student Paul DeTurk (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) was the lone participant from the men’s team, turning in a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 59.93 meters. On the women’s side, seniors Sydney Fitzpatrick (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) and Erica Jesseman (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) paced the Wildcats with a pair of second-place finishes. Fitzpatrick crossed the finish line in a time of 10:33.32 to capture second-place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Jesseman took second in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:51.24. Junior Keely Maguire (Georgetown, Mass./Triton) also competed in the 5,000 meters and claimed the second heat with a time of 17:33.29 while senior Allison Letourneau (Kingston, Nova Scotia/Berkshire Prep School) took home fourth place in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:35.48. Sophomore Rosemary Read (West Greenwhich, R.I./Warwick) finished sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 48.89 meters. The Wildcats host a meet featuring conference foes Maine and Vermont as well as Holy Cross and Northeastern in Durham, N.H., April 9.

Stony Brook University competed at the Bryant tri-meet last Tuesday in Smithfield, R.I. The men’s performance was highlighted by a podium sweep in the shot put. Junior Brian Crew (Galt, Calif.) won the event with a toss of 13.33 meters. He was followed by freshmen Rico Dutton (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) and Anthony Fratto (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale), who took second and third with marks of 12.53 meters and 11.59 meters, respectively. The Stony Brook women were led by a pair of 3,000-meter runners. Junior Hayley Green (Wellington, New Zealand/Victoria University) won the event with a time of 9:44.34 and freshman Olivia Burne (Palmerston North, New Zealand/Palmerston North) took second with a time of 9:53.12. Both times qualified for the ECAC meet. The Seawolves return to the track April 14-16 at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif.

University of Vermont was idle last week. The Catamounts return to competition this weekend at the New Hampshire Invitational April 9.
