CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Stony Brook's Adam Rand (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme) and Albany's Miles Thompson (Nedrow, N.Y./LaFayette) led their respective teams to their first wins of the season Saturday and have earned America East men's lacrosse weekly honors as a result. Rand was tabbed the Player of the Week and Thompson earned Rookie of the Week accolades. The award winners for the week ending March 6 were announced Monday.

Rand, a preseason All-America selection, dominated the center circle in leading #6 Stony Brook to a 13-7 win over Marist on Saturday. The senior midfielder won 18-of-21 faceoffs, which helped give the Seawolves a 41-22 shot advantage. Rand, who has won 75 percent of his draws so far this season (35-for-47) also picked up six ground balls and passed the 200 mark for his career.

Thompson (Nedrow, N.Y./LaFayette) scored his first three goals as a collegian to lead Albany to an 11-9 win over Delaware, which was receiving votes in the last USILA national poll. Two of the scores came during the Great Danes' crucial 5-0 run that bridged the second and third quarters and gave them an 8-3 advantage. Thompson, a freshman attack, also picked up a pair of ground balls in the contest.

Four of the league's six programs picked up wins over the weekend with Binghamton and Vermont also picking up victories. Stony Brook rose a spot in both the USILA Coaches' Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and is now ranked sixth nationally. The Seawolves earned their first win of the season, defeating Marist, 13-7, Saturday. Albany, which downed Delaware Saturday, and Vermont, which improved to 3-1 with a win over Bryant, are also receiving votes in both national polls.

Albany (1-1) won its home opener for the first time since the 2007 season with an 11-9 triumph over Delaware on March 5 at John Fallon Field … the Blue Hens, who entered the contest with a 4-1 record, were receiving votes in the latest USILA national poll ... the Great Danes scored four straight times to begin the third quarter en route to a 9-3 advantage … Miles Thompson (Nedrow, N.Y./LaFayette) netted two of his three goals in that decisive run … the freshman scored his first points as a collegian … Edmund Cathers (Syracuse, N.Y./Corcoran) made his first start at goalkeeper … the freshman made 10 saves, including five in the second quarter … Joe Resetarits (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) had two goals and one assist to extend his point-scoring streak to 21 consecutive games … the junior attackman missed all but five games with a foot injury last season … Keith Olson (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) helped Albany rebound from a tough opener in the face-off circle … Olson won 15 of 24 draws and tied the program’s Division I record with 12 ground balls … Alan Beach (vs. Hartford, 2004) and Kevin Rae (vs. Virginia, 2005) also had 12 ground balls in a game … Defenseman Travis Lyons (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) tallied his first career goal with 1:56 left in the second period to give his team a 5-3 halftime lead … Brian Caufield (Bay Shore, N.Y./West Islip), an All-America East selection who missed the end of last season with a broken jaw, has 135 career points and is fifth on the program's all-time assists list (73) … freshman Ty Thompson (Hogansburg, N.Y./Salmon River Central) scored a pair of goals for the second straight game … Matt Johnson (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) tied a career-best with two goals vs. Delaware.

Binghamton (1-3) split a pair of decisions to New York State opponents this week with a 13-4 setback to No. 6/5 Cornell and an 11-7 triumph over host Canisius on Saturday ... Behind preseason first-team All-American Rob Pannell, the Big Red dominated from the start as they raced out to a 13-0 lead in a span of 20 minutes ... Sophomore attackman Matt Springer (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) extended his consecutive game scoring streak to 17 straight with a point ... Springer, who was coming off back-to-back hat trick efforts was held in check by a stifling Cornell defense that featured a matchup with preseason Second-Team All-American Max Feely ... The Bearcats outscored the Big Red 4-0 over the final two quarters ... Sophomore goalie Kraig Heston (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) was named the America East Player of the Game on the strength of a solid performance that included holding a high-powered Cornell offensive unit to only five goals in 46 minutes of action ... Freshman Brandon Planck (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) led the Bearcats in scoring with a pair of goals in a span of 27 seconds down the stretch ... Binghamton scored its first triumph of the 2011 campaign with an 11-7 decision over the Canisius Golden Griffins on Saturday ... Six different Bearcats netted a goal, while four different players tallied an assist ... Senior midfielder David Raleigh (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) notched a career-high four goals to pace BU offensively ... His performance matched his scoring total from all of 2010 ... Heston picked up the win in cage with seven saves and only seven goals against ... Springer extended his consecutive-game scoring streak to 18 straight with his third multi-goal effort of the season... Junior Chris Cook (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) dominated the face-off X with an 11-for-17 mark, including a perfect 8-for-8 in the fourth quarter which allowed BU to pull away ... One of Binghamton's four senior captains, Frank Donlon (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Comsewogue) also recorded a pair of goals.

Hartford (1-2) suffered a 10-9 setback to host Siena on Saturday in its second-straight road contest of the 2011 season ... The Saints jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage in the first seven minutes of play ... Hartford clawed back to bring the deficit to just one goal on four occassions but were never able to complete the comeback ... The Hawks, who outshot their opponents 48-26, received goal production from six different players with freshman Tate Klindonas (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus), sophomore Jared Franze (Glenville, N.Y./Niskayuna) and junior Martin Bowes (Quincy, Mass./Quincy) coming off the bench to lead the team with two goals each ... Bowes finished with a team-high three points, also a team best ... The Hawks dominated in the face-off circle behind Tim Fallon's (Lowell, Mass./Lawrence Academy) 13-of-21 performance ... The senior also scooped up a game-best 10 ground balls, moving to sixth in the Hawks' all-time record book with 267 ... Hartford returns to Al-Marzook Field after a two-week absence when it hosts No. 20/22 Brown on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.) followed by Bellarmine on Sunday (1 p.m.).

UMBC (1-2) junior attackman Rob Grimm (Black River, N.Y./Carthage) tied a career-high with five points, but a Retriever comeback fell short, as No. 11 North Carolina (3-1) defeated UMBC (1-2),13-9,at Fetzer Field ... Grimm scored three goals and added a pair of assists, while freshman midfielder Zach Linkous (Jarrettsville, Md./St. Paul’s) and sophomore midfielder Scott Hopmann (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary’s) added two goals apiece ... UMBC was 3-for-3 in extra-man opportunities in the game ... Trailing 9-2 at the 9:47 mark of the third quarter, UMBC rallied furiously and closed the gap to 11-8 on a man-up goal by Linkous with 7:09 to play in the game ... UMBC junior goalkeeper Brian McCullough (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) made a career-high 14 saves ... Grimm has 15 points in his last four outings and extended his consecutive game scoring streak to eight straight ... Sophomore midfielder Neill Lewnes (Arnold, Md./St. Mary's) also got his first start and led the Retrievers with five ground balls ... He leads the squad with 18 through three games... The Retrievers return to action on Saturday, March 12 when they face Johns Hopkins in the Konica-Minolta Face-Off Classic... McCullough got his first collegiate start against the Blue Jays last season and made 10 saves in a 16-10 setback.

#6 Stony Brook (1-1) defeated Marist, 13-7, behind four goals from senior Jordan McBride (New Westminster, British Columbia) ... McBride, Division I's active leader in goals, has 138 for his career ... Senior Kevin Crowley (New Westminster, British Columbia) added three goals ... he has 184 career points, Division I's active leader, and is 18 points shy of the school's all-time record ... Senior Adam Rand (Niantic, Conn.) won 18-of-21 face-offs, dominating the position for the second game in a row ... Senior Tom Compitello (Hauppauge, N.Y.), who missed the Virginia game, bolstered the Seawolves offense with three assists ... McBride, Crowley, Rand and Compitello were named to the Tewaaraton Award watch list for Stony Brook, which is ranked sixth in this week's polls.

Vermont (3-1) won its only game of the week, topping Bryant at home on Saturday 7-5 ... The Cats entered the game ranked sixth in New England, while Bryant was fourth ... Sophomores Drew Philie (Sandwich, Mass./Deerfield Academy) and Luke Ryder (Worcester, Mass./Delaware) each scored twice as Vermont used a 4-1 scoring edge in the second half ... Philie added an assist for the Cats, while Geoff Worley (Coronado, Calif./Coronado HS) added three points on a goal and two assists as Vermont has now held its opponent to six goals or less in each of its three victories this year ... Junior David Barton (Hanover, Mass./Boston College HS) earned the win in goal for Vermont by making 16 saves, as Bryant outshot the Catamounts 35-28 for the game ... Senior Max Gradinger (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Torrey Pines) added a game-high eight ground balls for UVM, while senior Tom Frasca (Medfield, Mass./Medfield HS) was 10-for-16 on faceoff attempts ... The Catamounts return to action on Tuesday when they travel to face top ranked Virginia starting at 7 p.m. ... The game will be a homecoming for UVM head coach Ryan Curtis who played for the Cavaliers and helped them win the 1999 national championship.
