Crowley, Setterlund Named Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Finalists

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Two of America East's top spring sport student-athletes have been named finalists for the prestigious Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. Stony Brook men's lacrosse standout Kevin Crowley and Boston University softball star April Setterlund were listed among the 10 candidates in their respective sport when they were unveiled by the organization Monday.

Candidates for the award must be an NCAA Division I senior student-athlete and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.

Crowley, one of 10 men's lacrosse seniors up for the award, has 19 goals, 12 assists and 20 ground balls in seven games this season. A first-team All-American in 2010, Crowley carries a 3.37 GPA with a double major in business management and psychology. He was named the America East men's lacrosse scholar-athlete for last season, as well as the State University of New York (SUNY) Chancellor's Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Lacrosse Magazine's Preseason Player of the Year, Crowley is Division I's active leading scorer with 207 points. He recently set the school's all-time record with his 202nd career point against Cornell on March 22. A likely finalist for the Tewaaraton Award, lacrosse's most prestigious honors, for a second straight year, Crowley earned the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's (USILA) Enners Award, given to the nation's most outstanding Division I player.

Setterlund, on of 10 softball senior who were tabbed finalists, is currently batting .393 with five home runs, and 21 RBI.The three-time All-America East first team honoree capped off an historic 2010 campaign by earning Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-America first team honors - the program’s first-ever first-team honoree.

A business and management major with a concentration in management information systems, Setterlund has a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and is scheduled to graduate May 2011. She earned America East Honor Roll designation in the spring of 2008 and America East Commissioner Honor Roll honors in the spring of 2009 and 2010. She has also been named to the Dean’s List for the last three semesters.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.The men's lacrosse winner will be announced on May 28 at the Men's Lacrosse Final Four in Baltimore, while the softball recipient will be honored on June 3 at the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.

The Lowe's Senior CLASS Award winners will be determined by a vote of both fans, Division I coaches and member of the media. Fan balloting counts for one-third of the total with the remaining two-thirds determined by coaches and media.
