Matyas Finishes 17th, Rickett takes 36th at National Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Boston University sophomore diver Melinda Matyas (Budapest, Hungary/Eotvos Jozsef Gimnazium) and senior swimmer Matthew Rickett (Portland, Maine/Deering) recently competed at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Matyas took home 17th place in the women’s platform dive while Rickett finished 36th in the 100-yard butterfly.

Matyas dove at the women’s National Championship Meet in Austin, Texas, March 17-19. The two-time defending America East champion in both the one-meter and three-meter dives posted a score of 246.55 on the platform dive at the NCAA Championship. The sophomore took 17th place in the event, missing the cut for the B Final by 2.85 points. In 2010, Matyas finished 23rd in the event at the National Championship. Matyas also competed on the one-meter boards at the NCAA Championships, finishing 36th with a preliminary-round score of 220.15.

Rickett swam at the men’s National Championship Meet in Minneapolis, Minn., March 23-25. The senior raced in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in a time of 47.65 to take 36th place. Rickett earned an invitation to the NCAA Championship after posting a time of 46.71 in the event to win the America East Championship. Rickett was a three-time America East champion in the 100-yard butterfly and also holds the conference record in the event, posting a time of 46.43 to win gold in 2009.
