New Hampshire Wins Opener on the Road

Every gameday throughout the 2011 season, America East will provide a women's lacrosse update that  previews the day's matchups as well as recaps the previous day's action. Wednesday, February 23
at Albany 18, Siena 2 -- Box Score

  • Albany (1-0) scored the first 14 goals of the game, including 10 in the first half, as it beat its Capitol Region foe.
  • Albany outshot Siena, 44-11 for the game. The Great Danes put 44 shots on net.
  • Five Great Danes scored multiple goals on the afternoon, led by senior attack Taylor Frink and midfielder Mel Rorie, who each scored five goals.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Anna Berman made seven saves in 60 minutes of action to earn the win in net in her Great Dane debut.

 

New Hampshire 8, at Holy Cross 5 -- Box Score

  • New Hampshire (1-0) scored three goals over a four-minute span at the end of the game to break a 5-5 tie and win its season opener.
  • Holy Cross outshot the Wildcats, 21-15. The Crusaders also held a slight edge in shots on goal, 11-10.
  • The Wildcats held a 19-14 advantage in groundballs and a 10-8 edge n caused turnovers.
  • New Hampshire sophomore goalkeeper Kathleen O'Keefe made six saves to earn the win in net.
  • Junior midfielder Kate Keagins led the Wildcats with three goals on five shots while fellow junior midfielder Ilana Cohen added a pair of goals, including what proved to be the gamewinner.
     

Massachusetts 13, at NR/#18 Boston U. 12 -- Box Score

  • UMass freshman attack Katie Ferris scored the game-winning goal with just five seconds remaining in the game as Boston U. (0-1) dropped its season opener at home.
  • The Terriers held a two-goal lead, 12-10, with five minutes to play before UMass scored the final three goals of the game.
  • Boston U. outshot UMass, 27-19. Both teams put 18 shots on goal.
  • Senior midfielder Rachel Collins and junior attack Hannah Frey each scored three goals on five shots to lead the Terriers' offensive output. Junior attack Molly Swain came off the bench to add a pair of goals.

 

at #17/#17 Florida 16, UMBC 6 -- Box Score

  • UMBC (1-1) fell behind, 6-0, just more than eight minutes into the contest. The Retrievers could not get within five goals of the Gators the rest of the game.
  • Florida outshot the Retrievers, 39 to 16. The Gators put 21 shots on goal.
  • UMBC scored five of its six goals in the second half.
  • Junior midfielder Alicia Krause scored two goals, both in the second half, to lead the Retrievers.
