Crowley, Setterlund Named Lowe's Senior Class Award Candidates

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- A pair of standout student-athletes who earned All-America honors in their respective sport last season are candidates for the prestigous Lowe's Senior Class Award. Stony Brook men's lacrosse standout Kevin Crowley and Boston University softball star April Setterlund were listed among the candidates when they were unveiled by the organzation Wednesday.

Candidates for the award must be an NCAA Division I senior student-athlete and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.

Crowley, one 20 men's lacrosse seniors up for the award, was a finalist for the Tewaarton Trophy last season and also earned All-America and America East Player of the Year honors in 2010. The first overall pick in last month's Major League Lacrosse Draft, Crowley ranked third in the nation averaging 4.43 points per game after tallying 77 points on 51 goals and 26 assists. He was also tabbed the league's men's lacrosse scholar-athlete.

Setterlund, one of 21 candidates for the softball award, earned first team All-America honors and America East Player of the Year honors last season. She ranked fifth nationally in hitting and (.482) on-base percentage (.579), eighth in slugging percentage (.861) and ninth in runs per game (1.11). She also had 12 home runs, 19 doubles, 51 RBIs and was 23-of-24 in stolen base attempts

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.The men's lacrosse winner will be announced on May 28 at the Men's Lacrosse Final Four in Baltimore, while the softball recipient will be honored on June 3 at the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.
