One day after America East men's basketball teams went 3-2, Maine is the lone team in action on Thursday. The Black Bears will travel to Notre Dame for the second straight year and face the Fighting Irish at 7:30., a game that will be broadcast on ESPN3.
Maine (3-2), winner in two of its last three, leads America East and ransk 27th nationally averaging 80.2 points per game. The Black Bears shot a blistering 56 percent in the first half at URI Sunday en route to the overtime win. The Black Bears are shooting a conference-best 48.7 percent from the field as a team. Gerald McLemore, Justin Edwards and Alasdair Fraser are the league's top scoring trio, averaging a combined 53.5 points per game. McLemore ranks second (20.5 ppg), Edwards is third (20.2 ppg) and Fraser is 12th (12.8 ppg).
On Wednesday, Albany, New Hampshire and Stony Brook all posted victories.The Great Danes shot a blistering 66 percent from the field in a 87-63 win over Colgate. Gerardo Suero scored a game-high 29 points. The Wildcats held Brown to 56 points and 36 percent shooting in a 69-56 win. Alvin Abreu scored a team-best 18 points and Chandler Rhoads added 16. Stony Brook held Fairleigh Dickinson without a field goal for a 10:45 stretch and forced 20 Knight turnovers in a 70-46 win.
Also on Wednesday, Boston U. had its four-game win streak snapped at Saint Joseph's, which downed the Terriers, 75-68. Vermont also dropped a 62-43 decision at Saint Louis, its third straight defeat.
