Just one America East men's basketball team takes the floor on Sunday as Maine visits Rhode Island. The game, which tips at 2 p.m., will be televised locally in Rhode Island and Connecticut on Cox.
Its last time out, Maine overcame a 10-point deficit with just 49 seconds left at Eastern Illinois Wednesday but fell in the extra session. Gerald McLemore, the league's active leading scorer (1,264 pts.), scored a game-high 26 points. Only four America East players are currently averaging over 20 points per game and two of them are Black Bears. McLemore ranks second among leaders (21.7 ppg) while Justin Edwards, the reigning Rookie of the Week, is fourth (20.0 ppg).
On Saturday, Boston U. beat crosstown rival Boston College, 75-61. It was the Terriers' first win over the Eagles since 1974 and America East's ninth win over a BCS Conference school since 2008.
The other five teams in action all fell with Stony Brook dropping a 72-69 contest at Eastern Illinois despite getting a career-high 19 points and nine rebounds from Al Rapier. Elsewhere Hartford fell at Central Florida, Binghamton dropped a contest at home to Army, UNH lost on the road at Holy Cross and Vermont fell at Yale.
