Explosive individual performances by Jordon Bronner and Gerardo Suero led their respective teams to wins on Saturday as New Hampshire and Albany picked up victories in their final tuneups before conference play.
Bronner scored a career-high 24 points as the Wildcats knocked off Colgate, 71-64, at Lundholm Gym. UNH led by just three, 38-35, with 14:38 left but used an 7-0 run to open up a 10-point advantage that it would not relinquish. Alvin Abreu added 14 points for UNH.
Suero collected a double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds and converted a three-point play with 38 seconds left to give the Great Danes a thrilling 65-64 win at Mount St. Mary's. The victory gives Albany eight non-league wins, which matches the most its has had heading into conference play in 12 years as a Division I program. Logan Aronhalt added 15 points and five rebounds for the Great Danes, who overcame a nine-point first-half deficit to earn the win.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Boston U. led Quinnipiac by 13 at halftime, but dropped a 59-53 decision to the Bobcats. Darryl Partin led the Terriers with a game-high 19 points and added nine rebounds. In Philadelphia, La Salle upended Hartford, 73-55. The Explorers converted 24 Hartford turnovers into 36 points. Wes Cole led three Hawks in double figures with 14 points.
Conference play kicks off on Monday with a quartet of games, all of which tip at 7 p.m. Albany hosts Hartford, Binghamton entertains Maine, UMBC goes to New Hampshire and Vermont visits Stony Brook.
