Maine Looks to Extend Win Streak; Boston, UNH Also in Action Thursday

Riding a three-game win streak, Maine will look to extend that streak to four when its visit Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday while Boston U. and New Hampshire hope to start streaks of their own.

The Black Bears and Eagles will tip at 7:05 p.m. Maine posted its third straight win on Dec. 22, a 71-58 victory at Brown, by outscoring Bears, 42-28, after halftime. Justin Edwards and Alasdair Fraser each tallied 17 points and eight rebounds and were named America East Rookie and Player of the Week, respectively. Gerald McLemore scored 10 points and ranks third in America East and 17th nationally averaging 20.2 points per game. McLemore, Edwards and Fraser all rank in the league's top 10 in scoring and combine to score 51 points per game.

Boston U. looks to snap a four-game losing skid when it visits La Salle for a 7 p.m. contest. The Terriers, who last played on Dec. 22 when they dropped a 75-61 decision to Bucknell, hope to have point guard D.J. Irving back. He missed the game with an injury and ranks 13th among league leaders in scoring (12.6 ppg) and is second in assists (4.9 apg) .Darryl Partin scored a team-high 17 points against the Bison and ranks second among league leaders and 11th nationally averaging 20.8 points per game.

UNH hosts Sacred Heart at Lundholm Gym, where it is 3-1 this season. Patrick Konan tallied a season-high 17 points and just missed a double-double, grabbing nine boards in the Wildcats' last game, a loss at Providence on Dec. 20. Alvin Abreu scored 13 points and ranks sixth among league leaders averaging 14.1 ppg. The Wildcats are the top defensive team in America East, holding foes to just 60.7 points per game, which ranks in the top 50 nationally, and is limiting opponents to 42 percent shooting.

Last night, Stony Brook stopped a mini two-game losing skid with a 68-59 overtime win against Cornell and improved to 4-0 at home. The Seawolves nearly squandered a 19-point lead but outscored Cornell 17-8 in overtime to earn the win. Bryan Dougher and Ron Bracey each scored 16 points. Elsewhere Albany, Binghamton and UMBC all dropped road contests at Maryland, Canisius and Niagara, respectively.
