Four Men's Basketball Team Return From Holiday Break Wednesday

The final week of non-conference play kicks off Wednesday with four men's basketball teams returning from holiday break. Albany, Binghamton, UMBC and Stony Brook will take the floor in the first America East action since Friday.

The Seawolves are the league's lone team hosting a contest as they welcome Cornell to Pritchard Gym for a 7 p.m. start. The game will be televised locally in Long Island on Optimum Local Channel 118. Stony Brook has been off since Dec. 17, when it shot just 27 percent and fell to Rutgers in the MSG Holiday Festival. Dave Coley scored a career-best 17 points and is averaging 13.8 ppg over his last three games.

The Retrievers head to Niagara for a date with the Purple Eagles in its final tuneup before conference play. Tip time is 7 p.m. The Retrievers beat the Purple Eagles, 68-67, in their first-ever meeting last season. Its last time out, UMBC shot just 32 percent and was outscored 52-24 in the second half in a loss at Indiana Dec. 22. Three Retrievers scored in double figures led by Chase Plummer, who is one of just four players to rank in the league's top 10 in both scoring (8th - 13.8 ppg) and rebounding (2nd - 8.7 rpg).

The Bearcats hope to snap a 10-game losing skid when they visit Cansius at 7:30. The game will be televised on Time Warner Sports. Binghamton allowed the Dragons to shoot 55 percent from the floor and dropped their 10th straight game in its last game Dec 22.
Freshman Ben Dickinson scored a team-high 17 points and is one of just four players to rank in the conference's top 10 in both scoring (7th - 14.1 ppg) and rebounding (9th - 6.3 rpg). Robert Mansell ranks 10th among league leaders averaging 13.2 points per game.

The Great Danes, winners of two straight and five of their last seven, face ACC-powerhouse Maryland at 8 p.m. Albany shot a blistering 57 percent in the first half and and beat Dartmouth, 82-74, on Dec. 23. Gerardo Suero went over the 20-point mark for the eighth time, scoring 21 points against the Big Green. He leads America East and is tied for sixth nationally averaging 21.5 points per game. He paces an explosive Great Dane offense, which ranks second in both scoring (72.9 ppg) and field goal percentage (.459).
