Three men's basketball teams take the floor on Wednesday with Maine playing at home. Hartford and Vermont will hit the road.
The Black Bears face Eastern Illinois at 7 p.m. in their second of a three games in five day stretch. The two teams already faced each other this season in Illinois with the Panthers winning 85-80 in overtime but not before Maine erased a 10-point deficit with just 49 seconds left to force the extra session. Gerald McLemore scored a team-high 19 points in Maine's win over Utah Valley U. Monday. He leads America East and is eighth nationally averaging 21.6 points per game.
Hartford, which leads America East with 78 made three-pointers, plays for the first time in 11 days when it travels to Marist for a 7 p.m. contest. The Hawks nearly overcame a 17-point second-half deficit but fell to Niagara on Dec. 10. Freshman Wes Cole poured in a career-high 26 points off the bench as he connected on 8-of-13 three-point attempts and earned Rookie of the Week honors. He ranks second on Hartford averaging 10.0 ppg despite not making a start this season.
UVM looks to snap a five-game losing skid at Fairleigh Dickinson at 7 p.m. The Cats nearly knocked off one of the top mid-major teams in the country but fell, 73-72, to Iona Saturday. Vermont, which ranks third in America East holding opponents to 64.9 points per game, held Iona 15 points below its season average. Four McGlynn led four Cats in double figures with a career-high 19 points to earn Rookie of the Week honors. He ranks 16th among league leaders averaging 11.4 points per game.
On Tuesday, New Hampshire fell to Providence, 67-52, in the lone game of the day. UNH led PC 34-32 with 15:26 left but the Friars countered with an 11-1 run en route to the win. Patrick Konan tallied a season-high 17 points and just missed a double-double, grabbing nine boards.
