Three Stony Brook University baseball players received preseason awards from various publications over the past week.
Juniors
William Carmona (Hempstead, N.Y.) and Maxx Tissenbaum (Toronto, Ontario) were named Louisville Slugger
Preseason All-Americans, College Baseball Newspaper announced on
Tuesday, while junior centerfielder Travis Jankowski
(Lancaster, Pa.) was named a preseason All-American by the
National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) late last week.
Carmona was named to the first team as a DH and Tissenbaum to the
third team at second base. Jankowski was also selected to the NCBWA third team, as an outfielder.
Carmona
hit .357 last season and set school records for hits (80) and doubles (27) as
he became the first America East player since 1998 to be named a first team
All-American.
The
2011 America East Player of the Year, Carmona ranked third in the nation in
doubles and led the America East in five offensive categories including hits
and average.
Tissenbaum
earned first team All-America East honors last season, hitting .343 with 20
doubles and 43 RBI. An ABCA All-Northeast Region second team selection,
Tissenbaum led the America East with 55 runs scored and ranked second in the
conference in RBI and on-base percentage (.433).
The 2011 MVP of the Cape Cod Summer League, Jankowski hit .329
with 22 RBI and 15 steals for the Bourne Braves while leading the Cape
League in hits (57), runs (31), and triples (seven).
Jankowski earned first team All-America East honors for the
Seawolves last season as he ranked second in the conference with a .355
batting average and ranked 14th in the nation with 31 steals in 34
attempts.
