KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Seven America East men's soccer standouts have been named to the 2011 NSCAA Division I All-Northeast Region squad, the National Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced on Friday.
Stony Brook junior midfielder Leonardo Fernandes is the lone first-team selection. The two-time America East Midfielder of the Year, Fernandes led the league in points (25), goals (nine) and was second in assists (seven). He led Stony Brook to the America East title and earned the championship's Most Outstanding Player Award.
Boston University's Kelvin Madzongwe earned second-team recognition. The sophomore back earned America East Defender of the Year honors by leading a back line that compiled a conference-best 0.99 team goals-against average.
Five all-conference selections received third-team accolades: University of Hartford's David Bernhardsson, UMBC's Andrew Bulls and Dan Welsh, Stony Brook's Berian Gobeil Cruz and University of Vermont's Yannick Lewis. The quintet all received first-team all-conference honors
