Three men's basketball teams hit the floor on Wednesday, including two at home. Boston U., New Hampshire and Maine will all be in action with the Terriers and Wildcats playing host.
Boston U. welcomes former America East rival Delaware to Case Gym for a 7 p.m. contest. The Blue Hens hold a 17-11 edge in the series. The Terriers have won back-to-back games, including Joe Jones first as the team's head coach against Rhode Island Saturday, after getting off to an 0-4 start. Darryl Partin, the league's leading scorer (22.7 ppg), scored a game-high 25 points in Sunday's win over Hofstra. He earned America East Player of the Week honors last week after averaging 23.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in three games.
New Hampshire plays host to instate rival Dartmouth at Lundholm Gym at 7 p.m. The Wildcats, who are coming off a nine-day layoff, have won five of the last six in the series. Last time out, UNH had four players in double figures but were edged by Loyola, 66-60, on Nov. 20. Chandler Rhoads led the quartet with 14 points and added five rebounds. He ranks fourth among America East leaders averaging 17.3 points through three games.
Maine plays at Eastern Illinois at 8 p.m. in the first game of a home-and-home series. EIU will make the return trip on Dec. 21. The Black Bears used a 19-2 run that bridged the first and second halves to open up a big lead and down Holy Cross in their last game on Sunday. Justin Edwards, the two-time America East Rookie of the Week, tallied 22 points, seven rebounds and six steals to lead the Black Bears. The freshman leads the conference in steals (4.3 spg), ranks second in scoring (22.0 ppg) and is tied for fifth in rebounding (7.0 rpg).
In the lone game yesterday, Hartford had its best offensive game of the season but was felled by 22 turnovers and dropped a 74-69 decision to Yale. The 69 points were a season high for Hawks as was their 50 percent shooting mark. Genesis Maciel and Wes Cole each had season-highs of 16 points and canned four three-pointers apiece.
