Going on the road and facing a team that had won 34 of its last 37 at home did not deter Vermont as it knocked off Old Dominion, 65-63 in OT, in Norfolk, Va. Wednesday night. The Monarchs reached the NCAA tournament as a No. 9 seed last season.
The Catamounts, who improved to 3-2 and have won three of their last four games, overcame a 12-point first half deficit and outscored the Monarchs 36-30 in the second half to force overtime. UVM never trailed in the extra frame and Four McGlynn's four free throws down the stretch sealed the victory.
Sophomore Luke Apfeld led the way with 15 points for Vermont while junior Matt Glass added 14 and junior Ben Crenca had 10. Sophomore Brian Voelkel was the catalyst that led the Catamounts to a 48-37 edge on the glass as he had a season-high 14 rebounds to go with six points, five assists and a pair of steals.
Also in action on Wednesday was Hartford, which fell at Holy Cross, 80-66. The Crusaders shot 56.6 percent from the game and canned 12-of-21 three-point attempts.
Senior Andres Torres provided a spark for Hartford off the bench, scoring 15 points to go with four rebounds and five steals. Yolonzo Moore III added 10 points.
All nine America East schools take Thursday off for Thanksgiving but action resumes Friday with three teams in action.
