CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- Spectacular individual efforts led to weekly awards for University at Albany's Julie Forster (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) and UMBC's Lauren Chase (Bowie Md./Riverdale Baptist). The conference named Forster as Player of the Week and Chase as Rookie of the Week on Monday, Nov. 14.

Forster, a junior forward, averaged 21 points, 14 rebounds, five steals, three blocks and 2.5 assists while shooting 57.6 percent from the floor in two Great Dane wins last week. She had a monster game in Albany's home opener aganst La Salle recording 26 points, 20 rebounds, five steals, five blocks and three assists. Forster shot 8-for-13 from the field and 10-for-13 from the free-throw line.

In the season opener at Fordham on Friday night, Forster opened up strong with 16 points, eight rebounds, five steals, two assists and one block. She went 7-for-13 on field goals and 2-for-3 from the charity stripe against the Rams.

A member of the all-conference third team and all-defensive team last season, Forster averaged 9.1 points and a league-leading 9.7 rebounds per game a year ago while shooting 47.0 percent.

Chase, a freshman guard, opened her career with two strong outings running the point for the Retrievers, including a performance one rebound shy of a triple double. In two UMBC victories, Chase averaged 11 points, seven assists, 5.5 rebounds and one steal per game in 31 minutes per game.

Fast Start
America East teams went 11-3 in the first 14 games of the season for a .785 winning percentage. The league stood at 3-11 (.214) through the first 14 games of the 2010-11 season.

Forward Thinking
It was an impressive weekend for America East forwards. In addition to Forster, six other post players tallied double doubles and two others topped the 20-point, 10-rebound mark. Boston U. sophomore Rashidat Agboola posted 21 points and 16 rebounds at UMass on Sunday, while UMBC senior Topé Obajolu recorded 20 points and 10 rebounds at Monmouth, also on Sunday. Six of the top 11 scoring leaders after the first weekend are forwards.

20-20 Vision
Forster's 26-point, 20-rebound performance against La Salle on Nov. 13 wasn't only a career game, but it was one of the conference's top individual efforts of the decade. It was the first 20+ point, 20+ rebound game since two-time America East Player of the Year Heather Ernest (Maine '04) recorded 21 points and 21 rebounds at New Hampshire on Jan. 14, 2001.

Preseason WNIT
Hartford won a date to the Preseason WNIT semifinals against 2011 NCAA Runner-Up Notre Dame after winning first-round and quarterfinal round home games against Manhattan and Long Island. The Hawks, making their second Preseason WNIT appearance, join the Fighting Irish, Baylor and UCLA -- all Top-25 foes -- as the final four teams.

Coaching Debuts
This weekend marked the debut of two head coaches at their current institutions. Richard Barron and the Black Bears opened up with a loss at Central Connecticut, but the team gave Coach Barron his first win as Maine head coach with a victory at Rhode Island on Sunday. Friday's season-opener at Fairfield was Beth O'Boyle's first at the helm of the Seawolves. After falling to the Stags, Coach O'Boyle will get another shot at win #1 this Friday at Iona.

Sophomore Coaches
The 2011-12 season also marks the second season at the helm for three other America East head coaches. Albany's Katie Abrahamson-Henderson, New Hampshire's Maureen Magarity and Vermont's Lori Gear McBride enter their second campaign at their current schools.

1,000 Strong
On Sun., Nov. 13, Boston U. senior guard Alex Young joined two other active America East players in the 1,000 career point club. With a 12-point effort against UMass, Young has now amassed 1,002 points in her career, joining UMBC's Michelle Kurowski (1,285) and Binghamton's Andrea Holmes (1,118).

Senior C.L.A.S.S.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. UMBC guard Michelle Kurowski and University of New Hampshire forward Denise Beliveau, both all-conference honorees, each earned the preseason recognition announced on Fri., Nov. 4. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. Lowe’s, an official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, will announce the women’s Senior CLASS Award® winner during the NCAA Women’s Final Four®, which will be held April 1 and 3 in Denver. The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot.
