America East teams went 7-2 on the first day of the season, including Hartford's 64-45 win over Manhattan in the first round of the Preseason WNIT. The Hawks advanced to the winners' bracket of the tournament and earned another home game as they host Long Island Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. The winner of that game will go on to face the winner of Notre Dame and Indiana State.
Albany opens up the home slate on Sunday and will try to make it two wins in a row against Atlantic 10 opponents. The Great Danes upended Fordham on the road Friday night 59-42 and will welcome La Salle into SEFCU Arena. Albany swiped 19 steals against the Rams in the season opener, while reigning America East Defensive Player of the Year Ebone Henry led the way with a game-high 19 points and six steals.
UMBC, Boston U. and Maine all also return to action, but hit the road for Sunday matinees. The Retrievers and Terriers both won at home on Friday over Morgan State and Providence, respectively, while the Black Bears hope to put the first mark in the 2011-12 win column after their rally against Central Connecticut State fell short on opening night.
Maine's game at Rhode Island will have a familiar face as former Black Bear head coach Cindy Blodgett is now an assistant with the Rams.
