The 2011-12 men's basketball season starts tonight with six teams beginning their seasons, including three at home and two on television.

Hartford kicks things off with a 3 p.m. contest against Sacred Heart in the Connecticut 6 Classic at Mohegan Sun. The Hawks, who are starting their season against an in-state foe for the fourth straight year, are 5-2 all-time against the Pioneers.

Boston University will raise its 2010-11 America East Championship banner to the Case Gym rafters prior to its game with Northeastern at 5 p.m. The Terriers, who return 10 letterwinners and four starters from that team, begin their first season under Joe Jones.

Albany opens at #10/11 Pittsburgh in a game that will be televised on SNY in the Captial Region and ESPN3. The Great Danes, who had a nine win improvement from the previous year last season, starts the season against a nationally-ranked foe for the third time in the last four years.

No America East team returns more letterwinners (12) than Stony Brook, which travels to Indiana for its opener. The contest will be televised nationally on the Big Ten Network. The Seawolves, who were picked second in the league's preseason coaches' poll, reached their first league title game last year.

New Hampshire will be looking for their fourth straight win in a season opener when Suffolk visits Lundholm Gym. The Wildcats were decimated by injuries a year ago, but welcome back Alvin Abreu and Ferg Myrick, who both missed the majority of last season with knee injuries.

UMBC welcomes Penn to Retriever Athletic Center for its season opener and is looking for its first win against the Quakers in its third try. Preseason all-conference choice Chris De La Rosa will lead the Retrievers. He is the league's top returning scorer and assist man.
