UMBC Sweeps Preseason Swimming and Diving Polls

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Both UMBC swimming and diving teams were selected to repeat as America East Conference champions.

The UMBC men won their eighth consecutive America East Conference championship last year and if the men’s swimming and diving coaches are correct, the Retrievers will get number nine this year. UMBC collected three first-place votes and 15 total points to claim the top spot, with Boston University nipping at its heels receiving the other two first-place votes and 14 points overall.

Binghamton University grabs the third spot with 10 points. Maine (6) and Stony Brook (5) round out the poll, in which coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.

On the women's side, UMBC received five first-place votes and 35 total points en route to being tabbed the women’s swimming and diving preseason favorite for the 2011-2012 season.

Boston University collected the final two first-place votes and 32 points to narrowly miss the top spot. New Hampshire comes in at a close third with 26 points, while Vermont and Binghamton tied for fourth with 18 points. Stony Brook (11) and Maine (7) grabbed the bottom to spots to round out the poll.
