CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- University at Albany sophomore midfielder Corrine McConville (Lehighton, Pa./Lehighton) and University of Maine freshman Holly Stewart (North Vancouver, British Columbia) picked up the final America East regular season awards of the 2011 field hockey season. McConville earned the Player of the Week accolade while Stewart received her third Rookie of the Week award of the season.
McConville scored the game-winning goal in Saturday's 3-2 victory over first-place New Hampshire, a rematch of the 2010 America East title game. The reigning Rookie of the Year capitalized on a penalty stroke opportunity awarded in the 62nd minute, lifting the ball into the top left corner of the cage, to improve to 4-for-5 on attempts this season.
McConville now has 12 goals and 28 points on the season.
Stewart scored a goal in Maine's four-goal second half against Vermont on Saturday to guarantee the Black Bears the three seed for the upcoming championship. She took a feed from Jocelyn Mitchell in the 41st minute and put it away from the far post.
Stewart has 12 goals and 30 points this season.
McConville and Stewart will lead their teams into the America East Championship hosted by New Hampshire on November 4 and 6. As the fourth seed Albany will face the host in the first semifinal game at 1 p.m., and Maine is seeded third and will play #2 Boston U. in the second semifinal at 4 p.m. The champion will be decided on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 1p.

No. 18 University at Albany (13-6, 3-2 AE) finished the regular season with a home victory over No. 10 New Hampshire 3-2 on Senior Day… Katharina Helling (Hamburg, Germany/Sophie-Barat/Uni. Of Melbourne) struck first for the Great Danes with a tipped in shot from Daphne Voormolen (Rotterdam, Netherlands/Erasmiaans Gymnasium)… Voormolen notched her eighth goal on the season in the second half off a shot from Chantae Miller (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville/Michigan State)… Tied 2-2 with under nine minutes in regulation, the Great Danes were awarded a penalty stroke in which Corrine McConville (Lehighton, Pa./Lehighton) put the ball in the top left corner for the Albany go-ahead tally… With the win, the Great Danes improve to 7-1 at home this season; the lone loss came to No. 20 Stanford in the home opener… Kristi Troch (Lehighton, Pa./Lehighton) made three saves for her 11th win on the season which ties her for third in the program for single-season wins… The Great Danes will rematch with UNH next weekend in their seventh consecutive America East Conference tournament appearance as they look to defend the league title.
No. 15 Boston U. (10-8, 4-1 AE) finished the regular season with a 3-2 overtime victory at Fairfield on Sunday to earn a share of the America East regular-season title... Six Terriers recorded a point in the contest, including sophomore Ysi Schieb (Molendinar, Australia/A.B. Paterson College), who scored the gamewinner in overtime... After Fairfield scored first, senior Kate Murphy (Millbury, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) tied up the contest with her fifth goal of the season and junior Nicole van Oosterom (Lower Hutt, New Zealand/Chilton Saint James School) gave Boston U. the lead in the 45th minute with her fourth tally of the season... Junior Jacinda McLeod (Whangarei, New Zealand/Whangarei Girls) set up Schieb's redirect for the overtime winner and junior Macey Gaumond (Warren, Mass./Quaboag) and sophomore Kat Spring (Concord, Mass./Lawrence Academy) also earned assists on the day... Freshman Valentina Cerda (Santiago, Chile/Deutsche Schule Santiago) made five saves in goal to pick up her seventh win of the season... Thirteen different Terriers have scored at least one goal this season, the most since the 2006 squad had 14 different scorers... The Terriers have played in four overtime contests this season and have earned a combined 13 corners in extra sessions while allowing only one... Boston U. has now claimed at least a share of the conference regular-season title in six of the last eight seasons.
Fairfield University finished the season 9-8, 1-4 in the America East... In their final game of the 2011 season, the Stags fell to No. 15 Boston University 3-2 in overtime... The first goal of the game came from senior co-captain Leah Furey (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Bishop Eustace) giving Fairfield the 1-0 lead at the 22:28 mark... Freshman Felicitas Heinen (Munich, Germany/Oskar-von-Miller Gymnasium) earned both of Fairfield's assists on the day against Boston U. The freshman added one of seven shots on goal against Boston U... Senior co-captain Marit Westenberg (The Hague, Netherlands/Maeriant Lyceum) scored the second goal of the game and her eighth of the season at the 53:36 mark... The goal was the Stags' second of the day and tied the game up at two apiece, forcing the two teams into overtime... Westenberg owned three of Fairfield's seven shots on goal throughout the game. She finished her senior campaign with 20 points... The Stags had a number of key blocks throughout the game on the back half to stop the Boston U. offense... Heinen finished her rookie season with the second highest points total on the team with 16, breaking down to six goals and four assists... Goalkeeper Maddy Sposito (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) played just over 60 minutes and earned nine saves on the day.
No. 13 Maine (16-3, 3-2 AE) finished off the regular season with a 4-0 shutout victory over Vermont on Saturday afternoon... The win was Maine's second shutout in a row and locked up the three seed in America East... The Black Bears now have 16 wins on the season, the most for the program since 1996 (17)... Lelia Sacré (North Delta, British Columbia) led the way for the Black Bears as she tallied her first career hat trick in the win, including picking up her fourth penalty stroke goal of the season as she finishes 4-for-4 on penalty strokes attempts... Brittany Fleck (Vancouver, British Columbia) notched her second-straight shutout and the eighth of her career in the win... Maine has not given up a goal in its last 144:32 minutes of play... The Black Bears finish the regular season with 89 total goals, a new school record for goals in a season... Maine continues to lead the nation in scoring as it is currently averaging 4.7 goals per game... Kelly Newton (Vancouver, British Columbia) tallied a pair of assists in the win over Vermont, adding to her school-record of points in a career (163) and assists in a career (49)... Prior to the game against Vermont, Maine honored its seven seniors in Sacré, Newton, Fleck, Stephanie Gardiner (Vancouver, British Columbia), Jocelyn Mitchell (Kanata, Ontario), Molly Arute (Jackson, Maine) and Courtney Glynn (Hampton, N.H.)... No. 10 UNH (15-4, 4-1 AE) ended the regular season with a 4-3 overtime win at Harvard on Oct. 30 to record its 15th win of 2011 and remain unbeaten (3-0) in this year’s games decided beyond regulation… The 15 wins is the fourth-highest single-season total in the program’s 37-year history; the 1986 squad posted 17 wins, and both the 1980 and 1984 teams finished with 16… UNH’s 11-game conference unbeaten streak ended Oct. 29 with a 3-2 loss at 18th-ranked Albany… Whitney Frates (Woodstock, Vt./Kimball Union Academy) became the third Wildcat to record 50+ career goals with the first of her two goals Sunday at Harvard; she currently has 51 career goals… Hayley Rausch (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) became the fourth UNH player to record 50 points in a single season during her three-point weekend, which increased her 2011 total to 52 points… Casey Pohlmeyer (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) recorded a career-high three points with a goal and assist at Harvard… Megan Bozek (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Lakeland) was credited with a defensive save at Harvard; she has a team-high three defensive saves this season… UNH is the top seed and host of the America East Field Hockey Championship for the second consecutive year… New Hampshire went 7-1 at home, including 2-0 vs. America East teams, this season and outscored the opposition 28-6 with a 75-45 shot advantage… The Wildcats play Albany in the first of two semifinals on Friday… Albany has defeated UNH in the league tournament each of the last three years.
Vermont (6-11, 0-5 AE) dropped its only game of the week, falling at No. 13 Maine 4-0 on Saturday afternoon in the season finale for the Catamounts… UVM played the Black Bears to a scoreless tie at the half, before Maine erupted for four goals in the second half… The Catamounts dropped their last seven games of the season, five of which were to nationally ranked opponents… Sophomore Stephanie Zygmunt (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) made nine saves in goal for Vermont… Saturday marked the final game in a Catamount uniform for seniors Allison Barnaby (Hampton, N.H./Governor Dummer Academy), Emily Bastiaanse (Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial), Sarah Becque (Westborough, Mass./Westborough), Holly Davis (Greene, N.Y./Greene), Lauren Goracy (Glen Gardner, N.J./Voorhees) and Mackenzie Williams (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy)… The six wins for the Catamounts this season were the most since 2008.
