CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- With 11 more goals in two games last week, the University of Maine continues to chug along at a record-setting pace, breaking the program single-season record for goals and closing in on the conference mark of 89 set in 1996. Player and Rookie of the Week Holly Stewart (Vancouver, British Columbia/Carson Graham Secondary) helped the Black Bears' offense last week, leading Maine to two more wins.
Stewart tallied an eight-point week, including a seven-point effort in Maine's victory over America East foe Fairfield, and put six shots on goal in two games.
The rookie tallied her second career hat trick against the Stags on Saturday, including two unassisted scores. She notched the second goal of the game in the 11th minute, breaking from outside the circle, while also hitting the back of the net twice in the game's final 10 minutes. Stewart also assisted Kelly Newton's second goal of the game in the 42nd minute.
On Sunday against Hofstra, Stewart added the assist on Zoe Adkins' game-winning goal in the 64th minute of Maine's 5-4 come-from-behind win. Stewart now has 28 points on the season with 11 goals and six assists, including eight points against America East opponents.

No. 16 Albany (12-5 overall, 2-1 America East) went 2-0 over the weekend with a conference win over Vermont and its fourth straight shutout victory over Delaware... The Great Danes saw goal-scoring from seven different players in the two games... The offense put 17 shots on goal versus Vermont and capitalized on three... Goalkeeper Kristi Troch (Lehighton, Pa./Lehighton) only faced one shot to register her fifth shutout of the season... Christina Patrick (Lehighton, Pa./Lehighton) scored her 13th goal on the season, fifth game-winning, bringing her career point total to 89... Three other Great Danes would tally in the 4-0 route over Delaware... The Albany defense has allowed only 84 shots hit the target this season, giving up only 21 goals... Albany has one game this weekend, as it travels to Boston U. on Saturday, Oct. 23rd.
No. 15 Boston University (8-5, 2-0 AE) played just 35 minutes of hockey this week, as its showdown with No. 8 New Hampshire for first place in the conference standings was postponed at halftime due to lightning and heavy rain… The Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead before junior Tabi Hatch (Green Lane, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) tallied her fifth goal of the season to make it a 2-1 contest heading into the half… Sophomore Amira Downes (Harwichport, Mass./Harwich) picked up her first career assist on the play… The second half will be played Monday at 4 p.m. at Newton Campus Field.
Fairfield (8-7, 0-3) dropped its only two games of the week… The Stags fell to Maine on Saturday, 6-1… Freshman Lindsey Hatch (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) scored Fairfield’s lone goal on the day, tallying her second goal of the season in four games played… Christy Starsinic (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) had the assist on the Stag’s goal… Goalkeeper Maddy Sposito (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) made eight saves… On Sunday Fairfield fell at in-state rival Yale, 6-0… Senior goalkeeper Caitlin O’Donnell (Flourtown, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph) had seven saves on the day while defender Valerie Buurma (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) added a defensive save… The Stags return to action on Saturday as they travel to Vermont looking for their first conference win at 12 p.m.
No. 14 Maine (14-2, 2-1 AE) picked up a pair of wins over the weekend as it defeated conference foe Fairfield, 6-1, on Saturday before dropping Hofstra, 5-4, on Sunday... The Black Bears now have 14 wins on the season, the most wins for the team since they won 15 games in 2003... Holly Stewart (North Vancouver, British Columbia) powered Maine past Fairfield as the freshman forward tallied her second career hat trick while also adding an assist for a seven-point day... Stewart scored Maine's second goal of the day against the Stags which gave the Black Bears 73 goals on the year, a new school record for goals in a season, breaking the previous mark of 72 goals scored set in 2009... The Black Bears tallied 11 goals over the weekend, giving them 82 total goals on the season, an average of 5.12 goals per game, tops in the country... With six points over the weekend, Kelly Newton (Vancouver, British Columbia) became the all-time leader for points in a season. Newton surpassed the old mark of 45 points set by Annie Elkanich in 1996. Newton is now the career leader at Maine in goals in a career, assists in a season, assists in a career, as well as points in a game, season and career... The Black Bears now have nine players with at least 10 points on the season and have tallied 224 points as a team thus far... Maine continues conference play with a showdown at New Hampshire on Friday before battling Rutgers in a neutral site game on Saturday, held at UMass.
No. 8 UNH (12-3, 2-0 AE) saw its four-game winning streak end Oct. 16 at Memorial Field with a 2-1 loss to 11th-ranked Boston College. That game also ended UNH’s home unbeaten streak at six games… The Wildcats are 2-3 against nationally-ranked teams this season… UNH’s Oct. 14 game against 15th-ranked Boston University was suspended at halftime with the Wildcats leading 2-1; the game will resume Oct. 17 (4 p.m.) at Boston College… Senior goalkeeper Katherine Nagengast (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) matched her career high of 12 saves against BC; she established the benchmark Oct. 6, 2010 against Dartmouth College and matched it earlier this year in the season opener at Ohio State… Whitney Frates (Woodstock, Vt./Kimball Union) moved into a tie for fourth place on the program’s all-time goals list with her 15th of the season and 44th of her career by scoring a goal against BC… Fellow senior Hayley Rausch (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) also has 44 career goals… Kyle Lyons (White River Junction, Vt./Kimball Union) recorded her fifth assist of the season on Frates’ goal vs. BC; it is a personal single-season best for the senior back, who has 11 career assists… The Wildcats, who recorded a 102-34 shot advantage through six home games, were outshot, 20-12, by Boston College and that included 12-4 in the second half… UNH will pay tribute to its six-member senior class prior to the Wildcats’ last home game of the season on Oct. 21 against Maine.
Vermont (6-9, 0-3 AE) dropped its only two games of the week, both against nationally ranked opponents… The Catamounts fell to America East rival Albany, who is ranked No. 16 in the country, 3-0 on the road… Sophomore Stephanie Zygmunt (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) made 14 saves for UVM… The loss was the first of the season for the Catamounts against a team from the state of New York, after they entered the game 4-0 vs. Empire State squads… On Sunday, Vermont fell to No. 5 Syracuse, 12-0… Zygmunt made 13 stops in the loss, while classmate Lindsay Whittaker (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) made her first career appearance for Vermont in goal, playing the final 4:05… Sunday marked the fourth time in the last five games that UVM has faced a nationally ranked team… The Catamounts return to action on Saturday when they host Fairfield in America East action starting at 12 p.m… The contest will mark the final home game of the regular season for Vermont and UVM's seven seniors will be honored prior.
