First-Place Boston U. And Hartford Square-Off On Comcast Sunday Afternoon

Boston, Mass.-- Boston University (9-9 overall, 6-0 in America East) hosts University of Hartford (6-13, 3-3) in women's basketball action on America East Television Sunday afternoon at Case Gym. Tip-off at 2p will be available on Comcast SportsNet in New England, ESPN3.com, ESPN Full Court, as well as for free at the America East Zone.

In the first women's basketball AETV game of the 2010-11 season, Eric Frede will have the play-by-play, while Leah Secondo will return with the color analysis.

The Terriers, the preseason favorites, sit in first place and are defeating America East foes by an average of 21.2 points per game. On a six-game win streak, Boston U. is led by the 2010 Rookie of the Year Chantell Alford. The sophomore guard is leading the team with 17.5 ppg in conference games. The Hawks, who have played in five of the last six America East title games, were picked to finish second in the preseason poll. Senior Mary Silvia and sophomore Daphne Elliott have 11.0 ppg and 10.8 ppg, respectively, in league games so far to lead Hartford.

  • After a five-game skid spanning from 2006-08, Vermont has won the last five games over Binghamton since 2008. The Catamounts lead all-time, 13-6.

  • While Maine sophomore Amber Smith leads the team in scoring with 10.7 ppg, freshman Ashleigh Roberts has been the sparkplug in conference play with 13.7 ppg against league foes.

*New Hampshire at UMBC    2 p.m.

  • The Wildcats and Retrievers have split each of the last three regular season series, with each team claiming double-figured point road wins a year ago.
  • UMBC junior Michelle Kurowski continues to lead the league in scoring with 20.7 ppg in America East contests. She also tops the conference and ranks 21st in the country shooting .878 from the foul line.
  • The Wildcats will shoot from beyond the arc, having made a league-high 131 treys this season and shooting at the country's 28th-best clip of .363.

  • UMBC outscored Hartford, 8-1, in the second overtime, holding the Hawks without a field goal in the five-minute period.
  • For the game, the Retriever defense held the Hawks to .303 shooting from the field. The UMBC offense hit 47.1 percent of its field goal attempts.
  • UMBC junior center Tope Obajolu had team highs with 20 points, five assists and four blocks while grabbing eight rebounds. Junior guard Michelle Kurowski poured in 18 points and pulled down nine boards while senior forward Meghan Colabella added 11 points, six rebounds and four blocks.
  • Hartford was led by sophomore guard Daphne Elliott, who scored 17 points while hitting five three-pointers. Senior guard Jackie Smith added nine points and a game-high six assists.

  • Senior forward Tonya Young scored a team-high 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Vermont to a win over Maine. The win at Patrick Gym is the second straight home win for the Catamounts.
  • Vermont attempted 34 free throws, hitting 23 of those attempts. Maine went just 6-for-14 from the line.
  • Vermont sophomore forward Lauren Bucshmann scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while sophomore guard Lauren Wheeler added 13 points and nine rebounds in the win.
  • Maine freshman guard Ashleigh Roberts scored a game-high 17 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field and grabbed eight rebounds in the loss.

*Boston U. 82, at Stony Brook 65

  • Boston University forced 22 turnovers and recorded 14 steals to beat Stony Brook on the road.
  • The Terriers hit .509 of their shots from the field, including .607 in the second half. The Seawolves shot at a .434 clip for the game.
  • Sophomore guard Chanell Alford scored a game-high 23 points on 8-of-17 shooting and notched five steals to lead the Terriers. Senior center Kerry Cashman added 13 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
  • The Seawolves were led by senior forward Kirsten Jeter, who scored 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting and grabbed six rebounds. Stony Brook junior center Destiny Jacobs added 17 points and six rebounds in the loss.

  • Sophomore forward Kara Elofson scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Binghamton to a hard-fought home win over Albany.
  • The Bearcats limited Albany to only 27.7 percent shooting from the field and just 16.7 percent on 4-of-24 shooting from beyond the arc.
  • Binghamton freshman guard Jasbriell Swain added 12 points and five rebounds, while senior guard Jackie Ward scored 10 points in the win.
  • Albany sophomore forward Ebone Henry scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Great Danes. Junior guard Felicia Johnson scored a team-high 13 points in the loss.
