Crowley Tabbed First Overall in MLL Draft

BALTIMORE -- Four America East men's lacrosse standouts were selected in the Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft Friday evening at The Power Plant, including Stony Brook's Kevin Crowley, who was the top overall selection in the draft.Also selected were Crowley's teammates Jordan McBride and Tom Compitello and Albany's Brian Caufield.

The 2011 MLL Draft was the first was the first draft conducted prior to the completion of the college season and included rising seniors.

Crowley, a senior midfielder, went first overall to the Toronto Nationals becoming the first America East player to be tabbed first overall. A finalist for the Tewaarton Trophy, Crowley also earned All-America and America East Player of the Year honors in 2010. Crowley ranked third in the nation averaging 4.43 points per game after tallying 77 points on 51 goals and 26 assists.

McBride, a senior attack, went 14th overall to the Boston Cannons. He was named to the third-team All-America squad after receiving honorable mention accolades each of his first two years. A three-time first-team All-America East choice, McBride ranked among national leaders with 48 goals and became Stony Brook's all-time leader in that category.

Compitello, a senior attack, was chosen by Hamilton with the 28th pick. An honorable mention All-America selection, Compitello received first-team all-league recognition a year ago. He tallied 70 points on 37 goals and 35 assists.

Caufield, a senior attack, was taken by Rochester with the 32nd overall selection. He was Albany's second-leading scorer last year with 10 goals and 22 assists despite missing the final five games of his junior season with a broken jaw. He's two-time All-America East first-team selection.

America East has now had 20 draftees in the past five years after accumulating just one in the first five drafts.
