Towson 5, UMBC 3 -- Box Score
Despite a furious second-half comeback, the UMBC Retrievers (2-1-0) were unable to match Towson on the road as the Retrievers fell, 5-3.
Towson jumped out to an early lead, 2-0, in the first 19 minutes. Freshman forward Kay Banjo scored unassisted in the 11th minute and senior midfielder Joe O'Rourke followed with a talley in the 19th minute.
UMBC senior forward Levi Houapeu cut that lead in half, 2-1, with a goal in the 34th minute. The goal, his first of two on the afternoon, was assisted by junior back Vince Savarese and freshman forward Pete Caringi III.
However, the Retrievers' momentum was short-lived, as O'Rourke scored his second goal of the game just two and a half minutes later, giving Towson a 3-1 lead going into the half.
Towson would score another goal, this one by junior forward Liam Maloney, to take a 4-1 lead in the 59th minute.
UMBC did not quit. In the 77th minute, junior midfielder Andrew Bulls scored his first goal of the season, assisted by sophomore midfielder Milo Kapor, to make the score 4-2. In the 80th minute, Houapeu cut the lead to one, 4-3, with a penalty kick. The goal was his fourth of the season.
Towson though was able to finish off the Retrievers when sophomore midfielder Phil Martinelli scored a goal in the 88th minute, sealing the 5-3 win for the Tigers.
NJIT 4, Albany 1 -- Box Score
Albany (2-1-0) scored a goal early, but was unable to keep pace with NJIT the rest of the way, falling to the visiting Highlanders, 4-1.
The Highlanders scored quickly, with a goal in the first minute of the match. Freshman midfielder Nils Warfving took a cross from sophomore forward Pete Walker and put the ball into the back of the net just 27 seconds into the match, giving NJIT an early lead, 1-0.
Albany did not stay down for long, answering the goal with a score of its own. Junior midfielder Anthony DeSalvo put a ball past NJIT freshman keeper John Ricketti in the eighth minute. The score, assisted by freshman back Christoffer Nisser, knotted the contest at 1-1.
The score did not stay even, as NJIT scored three more goals in the first half. Sophomore midfielder Jack McVey scored in the 18th minute, sophomore midfielder Papis Ciss added a goal in the 22nd minute and McVey scored again in the 33rd minute, putting the Highlanders ahead, 4-1. Both teams were scoreless in the second half.
While the score was lopsided, the Great Danes did have scoring opportunities. Albany took 15 shots, nine coming in the second half. The Great Danes put five of those shots on goal.
