Every gameday throughout the 2010 season, America East will provide a men's soccer update that  previews the day's matchups as well as recaps the previous day's action. The update will also provide links to live coverage, box scores and highlights of select games. Saturday, September 4

St. Francis (N.Y.) at Albany, 1 p.m. Live Stats

The Great Danes host the Terriers, who dropped their only game of the season thus far, a 2-0 defeat to UConn Wednesday, in their home opener at Varsity Field. The contests kicks off a four-game homestand for Albany.

Albany downed Fairfield, 2-0, in its season opener Wednesday to snap an 18-game winless streak which dated back to 2008. Forwards Bo Jelovac and David Hawksworth each scored goals and netminder Adrian Foncette made nine saves. Foncette picked up where he left off last year when ranked third among league leaders a year ago with a .789 save percentage.

These two teams have not met since 2005 when Albany downed St. Francis, 4-0, at Varsity Field.


Wofford at UMBC, 4 p.m. Live Stats

The Retrievers take on the Terriers on the second day of the UMBC/Navy Classic. UMBC is coming off a 5-3 win over VMI Thursday, while Wofford, the reigning Southern Conference champion, fell to Navy, 3-1.

UMBC jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead over the Cadets on scores by freshmen Dan Shannon, last year's America East Midfielder of the Year Levi Houapeu and Pete Caringi, III, the son of UMBC head coach, Pete Caringi, Jr. Caringi added another score in the second half and tranfer Nirav Kadam tallied his first goal as a Retriever.


Vermont vs. Central Connecticut, 5 p.m. Live Stats

The Catamounts will partake in the 21st annual UNH Nike Fall Classic and face the Blue Devils in the first game of the tournament.

In last year's meeting, UVM dropped a 2-1 decision to CCSU, which went on to win UNH's tournament. The Catamounts' last win over the Blue Devils came in 2006 when they were ranked No. 22 in the nation.

Vermont is coming off a thrilling 2-1 overtime win over No. 13 Stanford Wednesday. It was the Cats' seventh straight year with a win over a ranked opponent. Junior Nick O'Neill, a tranfer from Missouri Valley soccer powerhouse Creighton, headed in a cross from Connor O'Brien in the 97th minute to give UVM the win.


Boston University at Hartford, 7 p.m. Live Stats | Live Video

The Terriers face the Hawks in a rare non-conference meeting between the two teams in West Hartford, Conn. They will play their conference contest on Oct. 9 in Boston.

The two teams also met twice a year ago, once in the regular season and once in the in America East Championship, with Hartford winning both meetings. The Hawks downed then No. 16 Boston U., 3-1, on Oct. 10 and won again, 2-1, in the conference tournament quarterfinals. Sophomore James Stamapolous, an America East all-rookie choice last season, scored in that game.

This will be both teams' second match of 2010. Hartford is coming off a 3-2 loss at No. 12 Boston College, while Boston U. earned a 1-1 draw with UMass.


UW-Milwaukee at New Hampshire, 7:30 p.m. Live Stats

The Wilcats open their 2010 season by entertaining the Panthers on the first day of the 21st Annual UNH Nike Fall Classic.

New Hampshire captured its first regular-season title since 1994 last year on the heels of a defense that allowed a league-low 0.94 goals per game. The Wildcats welcome back nine starters from that team, including the 2009 America East Goalkeeper of the Year Colin O’Donnell, who led the league in goals-against average (0.76), save percentage (.831) and shutouts (5).

UNC Wilmington 1, Binghamton 0 -- Box Score

In their opening game of the 2010 season, the Bearcats fell 1-0 in an exciting encounter with No. 17/22 (CSN/NSCAA rankings) UNC Wilmington in the opening game of the West Virginia Tournament.

The Seahawks scored the only goal of the game in the 14th minute when senior forward Nassim Berhouni netted his first goal of the season. Binghamton remained aggressive throughout the game, but couldn’t get the ball past senior goaltender Brock Duckworth. Sophomore forward Adam Whitehead led the Bearcats in attack, attempting two shots on goal.

Binghamton concludes its play in the West Virginia Tournament with a match up against No. 9/15 Monmouth on Sunday.


Lafayette 3, Stony Brook 1-- Box Score

After opening the season with a 1-0 victory over Hofstra, the Stony Brook Seawolves fell 3-1 to Lafayette in the opening game of the Lafayette Puma Classic.

Despite an action-packed first half, neither team managed to get on the scoreboard. It was Stony Brook that broke the deadlock in the 61st minute, when freshman forward Will Casey scored his first career goal to give the Seawolves the lead. However, Lafayette responded with three goals in the next 14 minutes to secure the comfortable victory.

The Seawolves close out play in the Lafayette Puma Classic on Sunday when they take on Colgate. Following the game against Colgate, Stony Brook will travel to Tampa, Fla. to face USF.
