Boston U. Hosts #7 Boston College Saturday; Three Teams Earn Wins Friday

Every gameday throughout the 2010 season, America East will provide a women's soccer update that  previews the day's matchups as well as recaps the previous day's action. Saturday, September 4

No. 7 Boston College at Boston University, 2 p.m. Live Stats | Live Video |Live Audio

The Terriers continue their tough non-conference schedule by welcoming their crosstown-rivals to Nickerson Field for a game that was pushed back a day due to Hurricane Earl. The Eagles are the seventh-ranked team in the nation.

After dropping tough one-goal decisions to then No. 12 South Carolina and No. 2 Stanford two weeks ago, Boston U. bounced back in a big way with consecutive 3-0 wins over American and Washington last week. Junior Lisa Kevorkian, a transfer from Cal, tallied two scores in the win over Eagles. Junior Jessica Luscinski, sophomore Jessica Morrow and freshman Emma Clark scored in the victory over the Huskies, who were receiving votes in the NSCAA Coaches' Poll at the time.

Friday, September 3

George Washington 1, UMBC 0-- Box score

UMBC concluded its four-game road trip with a 1-0 loss against George Washington. The Retrievers ended the road trip with a 0-3-1 record.

The first half opened very slowly, with neither team able to create many chances. However, the Colonials jumped out to the lead in the 33rd minute with a goal by freshman forward Claire Haft. UMBC freshman goalie Lauren Kadet did an excellent job keeping the Retrievers in the game, making five saves in the loss.

The Retrievers return to the field on September 8 when they host the University of Delaware. The match up against the Blue Hens marks the first of back-to-back home games for UMBC.


Albany 3, Temple 2-- Box Score

The Albany Great Danes earned their second consecutive home victory with an impressive 3-2 win over the visiting Temple Owls.

Albany dominated the game from start-to-finish, outshooting the Owls 24-10, and jumping out to a 3-0 lead. Sophomore forward Shayla Bergeron scored the first of her two goals in the 23rd minute to give Albany the lead. After sophomore midfielder Casey Marks extended the lead to 2-0 in the 47th minute, Bergeron put the game away with her second goal. Despite Temple scoring two goals late in the second half, the Great Danes were able to hold on for the win.

The Great Danes continue their four-game homestand with a visit from Massachusetts on September 6.


Massachusetts 4, Vermont 0-- Box Score

In its first road game of the season, the University of Vermont couldn’t overcome two first half goals from Massachusetts, and ultimately fell 4-0 in Amherst, Mass.

The Minutewomen jumped out to the early lead in the 22nd minute when junior midfielder Meghan Collins netted the first goal of her career. Massachusetts increased its lead with a goal from junior forward Deanna Colarossi in the 39th minute. The Minutewoman added two more goals in the second half to secure the 4-0 victory. In the defeat, freshman goalie Sarah Leiby made five saves in her first career appearance for the Catamounts.

Vermont has a week off before participating in the Black Knight Tournament, which takes place in West Point, N.Y.


La Salle 2, Hartford 0-- Box Score

In the first game of the Hartford Hawks Soccer Weekend, the host Hawks fell 2-0 in their match up with La Salle. This is the second straight loss for Hartford.

Despite this being a very evenly-matched game throughout, the Hawks fell due to excellent defense and goaltending from La Salle. Redshirt freshman midfielder Jourdan McVicker gave the Explorers the lead in the 31st minute with her first goal of the season. La Salle added to its lead at the beginning of the second half when freshman midfielder Anna Dolhansky scored her second goal of the season. Although they weren't able to score, Hartford played aggressive soccer throughout the game. Junior midfielder Breeanna Robinson led the way with three shots.

The Hawks conclude the Hartford Hawks Soccer Weekend on Sunday when they host Columbia.


Binghamton 1, Delaware St. 0-- Box Score

The Binghamton Bearcats picked up their first win of the season with a dominant 1-0 victory over Delaware St at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

Binghamton jumped out to the lead in the 6th minute when freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Cook notched her second goal of the season. While they were only able to find the back of the net once, the Bearcats played aggressive soccer for all 90 minutes. The Bearcats had a 22-2 advantage in shots over Delaware St. and were consistently on attack throughout the game. Freshman goalkeeper Carrie Martin recorded the first shutout of her collegiate career.

Binghamton will play its second straight home game on Sunday, when Delaware pays a visit to the Bearcats Sports Complex.


New Hampshire 3, Holy Cross 1-- Box Score

The New Hampshire Wildcats maintained their undefeated start to the 2010 season with an impressive 3-1 road victory over Holy Cross. The win improved the Wildcats record to 2-0-2 this season.

After a scoreless first half, UNH grabbed the lead in the 54th minute when junior forward Alyssa Michel scored her first goal of the season. Holy Cross tied the game in the 62nd minute, but the Wildcats responded almost immediately, with sophomore forward Chelsea Kuss putting UNH back in the lead in the 69th minute. Sophomore forward Drea Nogueira put the game out of reach when she scored her second goal of the season in the 72nd minute.

UNH returns to action on Sunday when they host the Harvard Crimson. Following the match up with Harvard, the Wildcats will travel to Amherst, Mass. to face Massachusetts on September 10.


Marist 1, Stony Brook 0-- Box Score

Stony Brook continued its difficult start to the 2010 season with a 1-0 loss to Marist. The defeat drops Stony Brook to 0-4-0 this season.

Much like it has in its first three games, Stony Brook struggled to maintain a rhythm and aggressiveness on the offensive end. While Marist dominated for much of the game, the score remained tied until the 59th minute, when senior forward Merrilynn Esteve finally managed to break the deadlock. Stony Brook freshman goalkeeper Chelsea Morales kept the Seawolves in the game with her excellent play, making seven saves in the loss.

The Seawolves will continue to search for their first victory of the season when they travel to College Park, Md. to face No. 10 Maryland on September 5.
