Binghamton vs. UNC Wilmington, 5 p.m.? Live Stats
The Bearcats open their 2010 campaign by taking on the Seahawks, who are ranked No. 17 in the College Soccer News National Poll, at West Virginia's Tournament.
Binghamton, which had its string of six straight America East title game appearances snapped last season,? return seven starters from that team, including a trio of second-team all-conference performers in senior Scott Zobre, junior Ryan Walter and sophomore Jake Keegan. The group combined for 10 goals and nine assists last season.
After facing Wilmington, the Bearcats continue their tough season-opening stretch with games against No. 9/15 (CSN/NSCAA rankings) Monmouth, No. 10/18 Ohio State and No. 16/RV Penn State.
Stony Brook at Lafayette, 5 p.m.? Live Stats
The reigning America East champions face the host Leopards in the Lafayette Puma Classic.
Stony Brook downed Long Island rival Hofstra in overtime in its season opener Wednesday. Sophomore midfielder Kyle Schlesinger took a pass from redshirt-freshman midfielder Marc Godelman and found the back of the net in the 100th minute to give the Seawolves their first win in a season opener since 2004.
Sophomore keeper Stefan Manz earned the shutout, recording six saves in just over 99 minutes in net.

at UMBC 5, VMI 3 -- Box Score | Video Highlights
The
Retrievers began 2010 the same way they started 2009, with a win over a
Virginia school. UMBC knocked off VMI, 5-3, Thursday behind two goals
from freshman Pete Caringi on the first day of the UMBC/Navy Soccer
Classic. Last season, the Retrievers upended Virginia Tech, 3-1, in
their opener.
UMBC,
which won 14 games and reached the finals of the America East
tournament last season, scored three times in an 18 minute span in the
first half to take a 3-0 advantage into halftime. Freshman Dan Shannon
scored his first collegiate goal on a blast from 20 yards out at the
18:55 mark and Levi Houapeu, the 2009 America East Midfielder of the
Year, added to the cushion with his first goal of the season 9:18 later.
Caringi, the son of UMBC head coach Pete Caringi, tallied the
Retrievers' third goal of the half with eight minutes left in the frame.
The
Cadets got on the board less than five minutes into the second stanza on
a score by Zaher Shihata, but UMBC struck right back on Nirav Kadam's
diving header at the 57:40 mark. The game remained 3-1 in favor of the
home team until VMI added its second score with just over 10 minutes
left in regulation. But, once again the Retrievers answered as Caringi
tallied his second score of the contest less than two minutes later. The
Cadets added one more tally, but the Retrievers held on for the win.
Wednesday, September 1
at Vermont 2, No. 13 Stanford 1 (OT) -- Box Score | Video Highlights
With
a goal by junior forward Nick O'Neill in the first overtime, the
Vermont Catamounts triumphed over the No. 13 Stanford Cardinal in their
2010 season opener.
In
the 97th minute of the match, O'Neill slipped a shot past Stanford
redshirt-freshman keeper Jason Dodson, giving O'Neill his first goal as a
Catamount and giving the Catamounts the win.
This marks
Vermont's second win over a ranked opponent in as many seasons. The
Catamounts defeated No. 18 UMBC during conference play in 2009.
Stanford lit the scoreboard first, with a goal by sophomore forward Adam Jahn in the 17th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
Vermont
was able to come back from the deficit, tying the game in the 68th
minute on a goal by senior forward Juan Peralta. The Catamounts then
held the Cardinal scoreless for the remainder of regulation to force the
overtime.
That is when O'Neill put one home on a pass from
senior midfielder Connor O'Brien to give the Catamounts a stunning win
to open the season.
Albany 2, at Fairfield 0 -- Box Score
The Great Danes opened their 2010 schedule with a win on the road at Fairfield.
Albany
first took the lead in the 28th minute, when senior forward Bo Jelovac
took a pass from junior midfielder Anthony DeSalvo and put it past the
Fairfield keeper, Michael O'Keefe. The goal put Albany ahead, 1-0.
The
Great Danes then built on that lead, scoring again in the 89th minute.
This time, sophomore forward David Hawksworth closed the door on a
Fairfield comeback, putting the Great Danes up, 2-0, with just over one
minute remaining in the contest.
While Albany was scoring goals,
the Great Danes keeper, junior Adrian Foncette, saved nine shots and
helped defend 10 Fairfield corner kicks to keep the Stags off the board.
Stony Brook 1, at Hofstra 0 (OT) -- Box Score
With a goal in the 100th minute, Stony Brook squeaked past Hofstra in overtime to earn its first win of the season.
That
timely goal was delivered by the foot of sophomore midfielder Kyle
Schlesinger, off of a pass from redshirt-freshman midfielder Marc
Godelman. The goal broke the scoreless tie as the first overtime was
ready to expire.

The Seawolves outshot the Pride, 13-8, on the match, though they only had five shots on goal to Hofstra's six.
Boston U. 1, UMass 1 (2 OT) -- Box Score | Video Highlights
Boston University opened play in the 2010 season by dueling to a 1-1 draw with visiting UMass.
Boston
U. got on the board early after a UMass foul in the box in the seventh
minute led to a penalty kick for the Terriers. Junior midfielder Michael
Bustamante made good on the opportunity by putting the penalty shot
into the back of the net, putting Boston U. up, 1-0, at the half.
Early in the second half, UMass tied the match at one apiece with a goal by junior fprward Bryant Craft.
With neither team scoring the rest of the way, the teams went to overtime against each other for the third straight year.
After 110 minutes, the two teams played to a draw.
Boston
University outshot the Minutemen 23-13 in the match. However, the UMass
keeper, senior Chris Piekos, made six saves on the night, keeping the
Terriers to a single goal.
at No. 12 Boston College 3, Hartford 2 -- Box Score
In
its season opener, the Hartford Hawks men's soccer team found itself on
the wrong side of a flurry of first-half goals and a 3-2 score in
Chestnut Hill, Mass.
The Hawks jumped on the board early, just
8:40 into the match. That is when freshman forward Steven Aiston scored
the first goal of his collegiate career to put the Hawks up, 1-0.
However,
the Hawks gave that lead away just as quickly as they came by it. In
the 10th minute, Boston College junior midfielder Amit Aburmad scored to
tie the game, 1-1. Then, in the 16th minute, Aburmad assisted on a goal
by sophomore forward Charlie Rugg, putting the Eagles ahead, 2-1.
Hartford
was able to tie the game, 2-2, in the 31st minute on junior forward
Patrick Boucher's first goal of the season. Junior defender Jorge
Rodriguez assisted on the goal.
In the 41st minute, Boston
College sophomore midfielder Kyle Bekker put a ball into the back of the
net, giving the Eagles a 3-2 lead with what proved to be the
game-winning goal.
