Every
gameday throughout the 2010 season, America East will provide a women's
soccer update that previews the day's matchups as well as recaps the
previous day's action. The update will also provide links to live
coverage, box scores and highlights of select games. Fans can also

Friday, September 3
UMBC at George Washington, 4 p.m. Live Stats
The Retrievers will drive an hour south to Washington, D.C. and take on
the Colonials. UMBC posted a 1-0 victory in 2005, the last time the two teams met
in the nation's capital.
Last season, the two teams played to a 1-1 deadlock in their first
meeting since 2006. Sophomore Katie Gitlin headed in a corner kick from
classmate Aly Gazarek late in the 36th minute to give the Retrievers a
1-0 lead, but the Colonials tied it up just 18 seconds into the second
half.
The Retrievers, who are 1-2-1 this season, earned a 1-1 tie against
Campbell on Monday. Sophomore forward Sarah Kopytko scored her first
career goal for UMBC and freshman Lauren Kadet made nine saves in net.
She leads America East averaging 9.0 saves per game and ranks second
with an .844 save percentage.
Temple at Albany, 4 p.m. Live Stats
The Great Danes, fresh off their first win of 2010, host the Owls at
Varsity Field. Albany downed Iona, 1-0, Wednesday, its third straight
victory in a home opener.
Chelsea DeVerna, the reigning America East Rookie of the Year, scored
her first goal of the season off a pass from Chrissy Klepper in the 15th
minute. Freshman Breanna Maggio made the score hold up by making five
saves to earn her fourth career shutout.
Last season, the Owls, who are 2-2 this year, posted a 4-3 double-overtime
win over the Great Danes. Sophomore Morgyn Seigfried tallied the
game-winner.
Vermont at UMass, 4 p.m.

The Catamounts travel to Amherst for the a meeting with a Minutemen. UVM
is just 6-13-1 all-time in the series but has won two of the last three
meetings, posting wins in 2005 and 2006.
Vermont went 1-1 on its opening weekend. The Cats' split decisions with
Rider and La Salle at their own TD Bank Classic, posting a 2-1
double-overtime win over Broncs Friday and suffering a 3-2 loss to the
Explorers Sunday. Freshman Haley Marks tallied her first career score in
the win over Rider, which proved to be the winning tally. Marks and
teammates Jessica Becker and Alison Hemphill were named to the
all-tournament team.
Delaware State at Binghamton, 7 p.m. Live Stats | Live Video
The Bearcats face the Hornets in their home opener at Bearcats Sports Complex.
It is the first of consecutive games against teams from the First State.
Binghamton, which reached the finals of the America East Championship
for the first time since 2004 last season, is still in search of its
first victory of 2010. The Bearcats dropped a 2-0 decision at Fairfield
Aug. 27 and were edged by Sacred Heart, 3-2, on Aug. 29. Sophomore Kerry
Sullivan and freshman Kaitlyn Cook each tallied their first career
goals against the Pioneers.
La Salle at Hartford, 7 p.m.

Hartford, which is 1-2 in the early going of 2010, will take on the
Explorers on the first day of Hartford Hawks Soccer Weekend. La Salle,
which is 2-2 on the season, has split two contests with America East
teams this year, suffering a 2-1 loss to UNH Aug. 27 and earning a 3-2
win over Vermont Aug. 29.
The Hawks' Breeanna Robinson, a junior forward, was named America East
Player of the Week on Monday after scoring three goals in two games last
week. She led Hartford to a 2-0 win over Drexel Aug. 27 with a score,
then nearly propelled her squad to a comeback against Temple Aug. 29.
Robinson leads America East with three goals in as many games this
season.
Marist at Stony Brook, 7 p.m.

The Seawolves look to snap a three-game losing skid and earn their first victory of the year when they host Marist at LaValle Stadium.
Stony Brook, which was chosen to finish second in the America East
preseason poll, dropped a 1-0 decision to Iona in its last outing Aug.
29. Freshman goalkeeper Chelsea Morales makes six stops.
New Hampshire at Holy Cross, 7 p.m.
The Wildcats look to stay unbeaten in 2010 when the take on the
Crusaders in Worcester, Mass. UNH, which is 1-0-2 this season, is off to
its best start since the 2001 campaign.
UNH won Vermont's TD Bank Classic for the first time since that 2001
season with a win over La Salle and a tie with Rider. Senior midfielder
Amy Avitabile scored in the 85th minute against the Explorers Aug. 27 to
give the Wildcats a 2-1 win. Avitabile's sister, Ashley, scored UNH's
lone goal in the 1-1 tie with Rider Aug. 29.
Freshman goalkeeper Erica Correa was tabbed the Defensive MVP of the
tournament by making 13 stops on the weekend, including eight against
Rider. She was also tabbed the league's Rookie of the Week after posting
a 0.87 goals-against average in three games.
