Vermont 2, Siena 0-
Box Score
Vermont put an end to its four-game winless streak with an
impressive 2-0 road victory over Siena.
The Catamounts were the more aggressive team over the
opening 45 minutes, and they were rewarded for their attacking mindset with the
opening goal in the 27th minute.
Junior forward Nick O'Neill took advantage of a Siena turnover to score
his fifth goal of the season. Vermont added to its lead just before the end of
the half, when junior forward Zach Paul scored in the 43rd minute. Sophomore
goalkeeper Dave Ramada was excellent in the net, making three saves to record
the second victory of his career.
Vermont kicks off conference play with a visit from New
Hampshire on October 2.
Stony Brook 1, Iona
0- Box Score
The Seawolves extended their unbeaten streak to six games
with a 1-0 win against Iona.
Both teams came out on the attack, with each squad having a
handful of opportunities to grab the early lead. It was Stony Brook that found
the back of the net just before the half, as sophomore forward Berian Gobeil
scored the game-winning goal in the 43rd minute. Sophomore goalkeeper
Stefan Manz helped seal the victory with a key save on a penalty kick attempt
in the 78th minute. The shutout was the third of the season for
Manz, which means he is now tied for the most in the America East.
Stony Brook opens up conference play with a
highly-anticipated visit from Boston University on October 2.
Holy Cross 4, Albany
3 (2 OT)- Box Score
In its final game before the start of America East play,
Albany fell in heartbreaking fashion to Holy Cross, 4-3.
The Crusaders grabbed the early lead when Jon Werth opened
the scoring in the 18th minute. The score remained the same until early
in the second half, when senior forward Bo Jelovac tied the game for the Great
Danes. Holy Cross jumped back into the lead with a goal from Tom Van Grinsven
in the 63rd minute. The Great Danes responded almost immediately, as
senior midfielder Ian Peach tied the game eight minutes later. After the
Crusaders grabbed the lead in the 76th minute, Albany responded with
a terrific goal from freshman defender Christoffer Nisser off a free kick four minutes before the end of regulation. However, it was Holy Cross that was able to grab
the win, as Werth scored the game-winner in the 104th minute.
The Great Danes begin conference play with a trip to
Hartford on October 2.
Binghamton 4, Niagara
2- Box Score
The Bearcats picked up their first road victory of the
season, as they defeated Niagara, 4-2. The victory extended their unbeaten
streak to four games.
Despite entering the game playing some of its best soccer of
the season, Binghamton found itself in an early deficit. Niagara scored goals
in the 23rd and 26th minutes to grab the two-goal
lead. However, the Bearcats used goals from sophomore forward Jake Keegan, redshirt
freshman midfielder Chris Hobbs and sophomore forward Adam Whitehead to grab
the lead by the end of the first half. Binghamton secured the win in the 63rd minute
when freshman midfielder Tommy Moon found the back of the net.
Binghamton begins the America East portion of its schedule
with a visit to UMBC on October 2.
