Friday, September 24
Boston University 3, Rhode Island 0- Box Score
Boston University put an end to its three-game losing streak with a dominant 3-0 win over Rhode Island.
The Terriers were the more aggressive team throughout the match, outshooting the Rams, 21-4, over the course of the game. Junior forward Ben Berube gave the Terriers the lead in the 24th minute with his first goal of the season. Boston University added to its lead right before halftime, as sophomore midfielder Ade Akinsanya scored in the 44th minute. Berube sealed the win in the 58th minute, netting his second goal of the game.
Boston University closes out the non-conference portion of its schedule with a visit from Harvard on September 26.
Stony Brook 1, No. 21 Harvard 1 (2OT)- Box Score
Stony Brook extended its unbeaten streak to four games with an impressive 1-1 (2OT) tie against No. 21 Harvard.
Despite both teams playing aggressive soccer over the first 45 minutes, neither team was able to get on the scoreboard before the half. However, Stony Brook grabbed the lead early in the second half, as sophomore forward Berian Gobeil scored in the 48th minute. The Seawolves held the lead until the 89th minute, when Brian Rogers earned the tie for the Crimson. Sophomore midfielder Leonardo Fernandes led Stony Brook in attack, attempting two shots on goal.
The Seawolves close out their four-game homestand with a visit from Quinnipiac on September 26.
San Diego 2, Albany 0- Box Score
In their opening game at the Nike Soccer Classic in San Diego, Calif., the Great Danes fell 2-0 to San Diego.
The Toreros were the more aggressive team throughout the game, as they outshot Albany, 13-0. USD grabbed the lead early in the first half, as Dan Delgado opened the scoring in the 6th minute of action. The Toreros added to their lead right before halftime, when Sergio Carranza found the back of the net in the 43rd minute. Albany junior goalkeeper Adrian Foncette did an excellent job keeping the Great Danes in the game, making eight saves in the loss.
Albany closes out its participation in the Nike Soccer Classic when it faces San Diego St. on September 26.
Upcoming Action
Saturday, September 25
New Hampshire at Massachusetts, 1 p.m.- Live Stats ; Live Video
The Wildcats will hope to extend their unbeaten start to the season when they travel to Amherst, Mass. to face Massachusetts.
After a week off from action, New Hampshire picked up a thrilling 2-1 (OT) victory over Bryant at Lewis Fields. Despite both teams playing very aggressive soccer throughout the first half, neither team got on the scoreboard until the 44th minute. New Hampshire junior forward Jon Harris gave his team the lead with his first goal of the season. However, Bryant responded in the 54th minute, with Erik Lekstrom scoring the equalizer. With neither team able to grab the win in regulation, the Wildcats were forced to play beyond 90 minutes for the second consecutive game. Similar to the victory over Presbyterian, junior midfielder Brad Hilton emerged as the hero. Hilton netted the game-winning goal in the 91st minute, scoring off an assist from freshman midfielder Steven Palumbo.
In their final game before the start of conference play, the Wildcats return home to host Fairfield on September 28.
No. 22 Brown at Vermont, 1 p.m. – Live Video
Vermont will look to extend its unbeaten streak to seven games when it hosts No. 22 Brown at Centennial Field.
The Catamounts picked up an impressive road result when they tied Massachusetts, 2-2. The Catamounts grabbed the lead in the 8th minute when sophomore forward D.J. Edler netted his first goal of the season. However, UVM found itself in a quick deficit, as Massachusetts scored goals in the 23rd and 25th minutes to grab the lead. The Catamounts responded early in the second half, with senior forward Juan Peralta scoring his second goal of the season to earn the draw.
Following the visit from Brown, UVM will head to Loudonville, N.Y., for a match up with Siena.
Hartford at Hartwick, 7 p.m. – Live Stats ; Live Video
The Hawks close out the non-conference portion of their schedule when they travel to Oneonta, N.Y. to face Hartwick.
Hartford is coming off a heartbreaking 2-1 (OT) loss at Rutgers. Freshman forward Sean McKinney gave the Hawks the early lead, scoring the first goal of his career in the 11th minute. The Hawks maintained the lead until early in the second half, when Sam Archer scored his second goal of the season to tie the game for the Scarlet Knights. The score remained tied until late in the first overtime, when Bryant Knibbs scored the game-winning goal for Rutgers.
Hartford returns to action on October 2 when it hosts Albany in the opening game of conference play.
