The 2009-10
America East women's basketball season was an historic one, as well as
an exciting one. As we prepare for the 2010-11 season, which is quickly
approaching, we'll recap last season below and take a look at the year
to come with the 2010-11 Prospectus, now available!

- In 2010,
America East had two teams in the NCAA Women's Tournament for the first
time since 2000, including Hartford's first-ever at-large bid in the
program's history.
- Vermont
defeated Wisconsin for America East's third win in the NCAA Women's
Tournament since 2006. The Catamounts won their second straight America
East Championship to receive an automatic berth into the tournament.
- America East had two women's teams nationally-ranked during the season, as well as receiving votes in both national polls.
- The 2010 America
East Women's Championship Game between Hartford and Vermont at the
Hawks' Chase Arena attracted over 2,200 fans, the most to attend a final
since 2006.
- Vermont was one
of 19 teams in the NCAA Women's Tournament with a perfect 100%
graduation rate, while Hartford's APR rate of 991 was the fifth-best in
the NCAA Women's Tournament.
- The league
finished 15th in the RPI according to Collegiate Basketball News.
America East was the fifth-highest ranked non-FBS conference in 2009-10
and it marked the league's highest finish since 2005-06.
- Boston University hosted a WNIT game for the second straight year.
- Hartford Head Coach Jen Rizzotti was a finalist for the inaugural Kay Yow Coach of the Year Award.
- Newman's Own Foundation contributed more than $100,000 to charities in America East communities during the championship.
- UMBC
finished with the third-highest grade-point average (3.578) of all
Division I programs in 2009-10 based on the WBCA's Academic Top-25 Honor
Roll. Hartford ranked 23rd in the country with a team GPA of 3.321.
