Binghamton, SBU Secure Men's Soccer Wins Friday; Two Teams Play Saturday

Binghamton 1, Lafayette 0 -- Box Score

In the opening game of the Colgate Raider Classic, Binghamton secured its first victory of the season with a 1-0 win over Lafayette.

The Bearcats wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as senior defender Kyle Manscuk gave Binghamton the lead in the 2nd minute off an excellent corner kick from sophomore forward Adam Whitehead. Despite grabbing the early lead, the Bearcats remained the more aggressive team over the course of the match, outshooting Lafayette, 12-6. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Chris Hayen made three saves to secure the shutout.

Binghamton will close out the Colgate Raider Classic on September 19 when it faces the host Raiders.


Stony Brook 4, Central Connecticut St. 2- Box Score

Stony Brook opened its four-game homestand with an impressive 4-2 win over Central Connecticut St.

The Seawolves scored two goals in each half to earn the win. Sophomore forward Raphael Abreu scored his first goal of the season in the 17th minute to give the Seawolves the lead. With the score tied heading towards the end of the half, sophomore forward Berian Gobeil scored in the 42nd minute giving Stony Brook the lead. Junior forward Wilber Bonilla extended the lead in the 46th minute, scoring his first goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder Leonardo Fernandes closed out the scoring in the 71st minute to clinch the victory.

Stony Brook continues its homestand with a visit from Bryant on September 19.


Vermont 0, Colgate 0 (2OT)- Box Score

Vermont continued its strong play, as the Catamounts secured a 0-0 tie in the opening game of the Colgate Raider Adidas Classic.

Despite neither team scoring, it was a very evenly played game. Vermont junior forward Nick O’Neill led the Catamounts in attack, attempting three shots in the tie, while playing all 110 minutes.  Graduate student goalkeeper Xan Rousselle played a key role in keeping the Raiders off the scoreboard, making eight saves.

The Catamounts close out their participation in the Colgate Raider Adidas Classic when they face Lafayette on September 19.


No. 20 St. John’s 3, Hartford 0- Box Score

Hartford saw its two-game winning streak come to an end, as the Hawks fell 3-0 to No. 20 St. John’s.
St. John’s jumped out to an early lead, with Omar Edwards scoring in the first minute of action. The score remained the same until the 73rd minute, when Tadeu Terra extended the lead for the Red Storm. Adam Himeno secured the 3-0 victory with a goal in the 82nd minute. Hartford junior goalkeeper Jordan Bar made seven saves in the loss.

The Hawks continue their three-game road trip with a visit to Piscataway, N.J. to face Rutgers.


No. 13 Boston College 4, Boston University 0 -- Box Score

The Terriers dropped their second straight game to a ranked opponent, as they fell 4-0 to No. 13 Boston College.

Boston College used four goals in the first half to secure the comfortable victory. Conor Fitzpatrick opened the scoring in the 33rd minute to give Boston College the early lead. The Eagles added to their lead one minute later, with Karl Reddick finding the back of the net. Charlie Rugg and Edvin Worley each scored before the end of the half to help give Boston College the 4-0 lead. Junior midfielder Michael Bustamante led the Terriers in attack, attempting three shots in the loss.

Boston University opens up a three-game homestand when it hosts Brown on September 19.

Saturday, September 18

UMBC at Mount St. Mary's, 1 p.m. -- Live Stats

The Retrievers, who are coming off a thrilling overtime win against La Salle Wednesday, travel to Emmitsburg, Md. for a meeting with The Mount.

UMBC (3-2-0) appeared to be heading to their third straight defeat until freshman Pete Caringi III scored to tie the game at 1-1 with just five minutes to go. Then in overtime, senior Levi Houapeu tallied his league-leading fifth goal of the season to lift his team to the win.

Last season, the Retrievers defeated Mount St. Mary's, 2-1, in Baltimore. Houapeu and junior Andrew Bulls scored goals.


Albany at Hartwick, 7 p.m. -- Live Stats

The Great Danes travel down Route 88 to face Hartwick in Oneonta Saturday.

Albany (3-2-0) snapped a two-game losing skid with a 1-0 win over crosstown-rival Siena on Wednesday. Anthony DeSalvo broke a scoreless tie in the 79th minute after receiving a pass from Jeff Pierre. DeSalvo is tied for fifth among league leaders with five points.

Sophomore goalkeeper Adrian Foncette made three saves to record his second shutout of the season. He leads the conference with 5.2 saves per game.
