Albany 1, Manhattan 0 -- Box Score | Highlights
In the opening game of its two-game homestand, Albany picked up a key 1-0 victory over Manhattan to improve its record to 4-4-0.
The Great Danes were the most aggressive team throughout the match, outshooting Manhattan, 19-11. Albany grabbed the lead in the 27th minute, when junior midfielder Chrissy Klepper netted the game-winning goal. Despite both teams playing attacking soccer the rest of the match, neither was able to find the back of the net. Junior midfielder Rebecca Lee led the Great Danes in attack, attempting six shots in the victory.
Albany closes out its non-conference schedule when it hosts Central Connecticut St. on September 19.
Central Connecticut St. 3, Hartford 1 -- Box Score
Hartford dropped the final game of its two-game road trip, falling 3-1 to intrastate rival Central Connecticut St.
With both teams playing defensive soccer over the first 45 minutes, it seemed like the game was going to head to the half scoreless. However, junior forward Breeanna Robinson gave the Hawks the lead in the 40th minute, scoring her fourth goal of the season. The Blue Devils tied the game early in the second half, with Cilo Tregear scoring in the 50th minute. The game remained tied until the 65th minute when Beth Lloyd scored the first of her two goals to seal the win.
The Hawks return home to face St. Joseph’s on September 19.
Temple 2, Vermont 1 -- Box Score
The Catamounts dropped their sixth consecutive game, as the visiting Temple Owls pulled out the 2-1 victory.
After a scoreless first half, Temple opened the scoring in the 55th minute. Niki Conn scored her fourth goal of the season to give the Owls the lead. Kate Yurkovic extended the lead for Temple in the 72nd minute, netting her fourth goal of the season. Vermont freshman forward Haley Marks put the Catamounts on the scoreboard in the 82nd minute, but that was as close as they would get. Along with her second goal of the season, Marks attempted four shots in the loss.
Vermont closes out the non-conference portion of its schedule with a visit to Washington, D.C., to face American.
Northeastern 3, New Hampshire 1 -- Box Score
In their final non-conference road game of the 2010 season, the Wildcats fell 3-1 to Northeastern at Parsons Field.
Northeastern scored the lone goal of the first half in the 13th minute, when Georgina Kerr scored off a corner kick. The score remained the same until the 50th minute, when UNH junior midfielder Jordyn Krall tied the game for the Wildcats. However, the Huskies responded with two goals in a five minute period to secure the 3-1 victory. Freshman goalkeeper Erica Correa put together an impressive performance, making seven saves in the loss.
The Wildcats open a two-game homestand with a visit from Bryant on September 19.
