Four Women's Soccer Teams Fall Wednesday; Boston U., SBU Return to Action Thursday

Every gameday throughout the 2010 season, America East will provide a women's soccer update that  previews the day's matchups as well as recaps the previous day's action. The update will also provide links to live coverage, box scores and highlights of select games. Siena 2, Vermont 0- Box Score

The Catamounts dropped their fifth straight contest when they fell 2-0 to the visiting Saints.

The Saints came out the more attacking team in the first half, and they were rewarded in the 34th minute, when Cara Riley gave Siena the 1-0 lead. Despite Vermont being the more attack-minded team over the final 45 minutes, it was Siena that extended its lead to 2-0 in the 81st minute. Tabitha Tice netted her third goal of the year to clinch the victory for the Saints. Sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Kellyput together a tremendous performance for the Catamounts, making 10 saves in the loss.

Vermont will look to put an end to its five-game losing streak when it hosts Temple on September 17.

George Mason 4, UMBC 3- Box Score

UMBC suffered its third straight loss, as it fell 4-3 to the visiting George Mason Patriots.

The Retrievers took advantage of their limited opportunities in the first half, jumping out to a 2-0 lead. Freshman forward Amy Savage put the Retrievers in the lead in the 21st minute, scoring a terrific goal off a pass from freshman midfielder Nicole Clark. Freshman midfielder Stephanie Smith extended the UMBC lead in the 42nd minute with her first goal of the season. However, George Mason responded with three goals in the first fifteen minutes of the second half to grab the 3-2 lead. Sophomore forward Rachel McKee tied the game for UMBC in the 61st minute off a goal from the penalty spot. It was the Patriots who netted the final goal of the game, with Zoe Doherty scoring in the 67th minute to secure the win.

UMBC will begin its three-game road trip on September 19 with a visit to Washington, D.C., for a match up with American.

Iona 1, Binghamton 0- Box Score

Despite outshooting Iona 23-5 over the course of the game, the Bearcats fell 1-0 to the visiting Gaels.

Although Binghamton attempted 11 shots during the first 45 minutes of action, the Bearcats were unable to find the back of the net during the first half. It was Iona that was finally able to get on the scoreboard, as the Gaels grabbed the lead in the 76th minute when Ali Werner scored her first goal of the season. The Bearcats continued to search for the tying goal, but were unable to get the ball past Iona goalkeeper Trista Rivera. Freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Cook led the Bearcats in attack, attempting six shots.

Binghamton returns to the field on September 20 when it heads to South Orange, N.J. to face Seton Hall.

Colgate 2, Albany 0- Box Score

In their first road game since the Las Vegas Invitational, the Great Danes fell 2-0 to Colgate.

Despite Albany being the more aggressive team over the first 45 minutes, it was Colgate that led at the end of the first half. Jillian Kinter gave Colgate the lead in the 40th minute with her third goal of the season. The Great Danes continued to search for the equalizer, as they outshot the Raiders 11-3 during the second half. However, Anna Baldwin extended the Colgate lead in 60th minute, scoring her first goal of the season to secure the victory. Junior midfielder Rebecca Lee led the Great Danes in attack, attempting four shots in the loss.

Albany returns home to host Manhattan on September 17 in the opening game of its two-game homestand.

Boston University at Harvard- Live Stats

The Terriers will hope to bounce back from the difficult 3-0 loss to No. 12 Virginia when they travel to Cambridge, Mass. to face Harvard.

After knocking off No. 22 William & Mary in its opening game of the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic, Boston University fell 3-0 to the host Cavaliers on the final day of action.  Despite the Cavaliers coming out on the attack, the game remained scoreless through the first 45 minutes. However, Virginia grabbed the lead in the 56th minute, when Sinead Farrelly scored the first of her two goals. Caroline Miller extended the lead two minutes later, scoring an impressive individual goal. Junior forward Tiya Gallegos led the Terriers in attack, attempting three shots in the loss.

Following the match up with Harvard, the Terriers will host Connecticut on September 19.

Fairfield at Stony Brook- Live Stats; Live Video

Stony Brook will continue the search for its first victory of the 2010 season when it hosts Fairfield.

In their final non-conference road game of the season, the Seawolves fell 3-0 to Columbia. Two goals in the first 45 minutes gave the Lions a comfortable lead heading into the half. Despite Stony Brook playing excellent defensive soccer throughout the second half, Columbia extended its lead to 3-0 in the 76th minute. Sophomore midfielder Sa’Sha Kershaw led the Seawolves in attack, attempting three shots in the loss.

After the game against Fairfield, the Seawolves will continue their three-game homestand with a visit from Manhattan.
