Three Men's Soccer Teams Win Sunday Matches

New Hampshire 2, Presbyterian 1 (2 OT) -- Box Score

It took about as much time as the match would allow, but New Hampshire (2-0-2) was able to finish its play in the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Nike Fall Classic in Burlington, Vt. with a 2-1 victory over Presbyterian.

With just :16 remaining on the clock in the second overtime, New Hampshire junior midfielder Brad Hilton netted an unassisted goal to give the Wildcats a sudden victory, 2-1.

Earlier in the match, in the 42nd minute, New Hampshire took the lead, 1-0, on a goal by sophomore forward Jordan Thomas, assisted by freshman midfielder Robert Palumbo. Presbyterian tied the match, 1-1, on a junior midfielder Stephen Glover goal in the 52nd minute. The score remained tied through the duration of regulation and the first overtime.

New Hampshire kept offensive pressure on Presbyterian all afternoon, taking 24 shots in the match. 12 of those shots were on goal. Presbyterian senior keeper William Redmond made 10 saves in the match.
 

Vermont 2, Cornell 1 -- Box Score | Highlights 

Vermont (4-1-0) came from behind against Cornell to win the match, 2-1, and finish first in the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Nike Fall Classic.

Cornell scored first in the match, on a goal by junior forward Franck Onambele in the 21st minute.

The Big Red lead did not last long. In the 26th minute, junior forward Nick O'Neill assisted on junior defender Yannick Lewis's first goal of the season. The goal tied the score, 1-1. The half ended with the same score.

Later, in the 64th minute, Vermont senior midfielder Connor O'Brien put home the gamewinner. The goal, O'Brien's second of the season, was assisted by freshman midfielder Malick Camara and senior midfielder Patrick Alonis.

The win is the third consecutive win for the Catamounts.

Stony Brook 1, Dartmouth 0 -- Box Score

Stony Brook (2-4-0) broke a four-game losing streak as it defeated Dartmouth on the road, 1-0.

The Seawolves took the lead, 1-0, when sophomore forward Berian Gobeil headed the ball past Dartmouth sophomore keeper Sean Donovan in the 34th minute. Sophomore midfielder Kyle Schlesinger set up the header, which wound up being the gamewinner. The goal came 11 minutes after Dartmouth junior defender Nick Pappas received a red card, leaving Dartmouth short-handed.

Stony Brook sophomore keeper Stefan Manz saved four shots as he earned his second shutout of the season. The stout defense was necessary, as the Seawolves were outshot, 11-3, in the match.

No. 11 Penn State 4, Binghamton 3 -- Box Score

After mounting a furious comeback to tie the score in the second half, Binghamton (0-4-0) gave up a late goal, losing a heartbreaker, 4-3, at No. 11 Penn State.

Junior forward Corey Hertzog scored his second goal of the match in the 85th minute, giving Penn State the win, 4-3. The goal came after Binghamton scored two goals to tie the game after it had trailed, 3-1, in the second half.

Binghamton found itself in a deep hole early after Penn State freshman midfielder Jordan Tyler scored two goals, one in the 11th minute, one in the 19th, giving Penn State a lead, 2-0.

Binghamton scored a goal before the half when sophomore forward Adam Whitehead found freshman forward Luke Halberg in the 28th minute, making the score 2-1. The goal was Halberg's first of the season.

Hertzog scored his first goal of the match in the 51st minute to give Penn State a two goal lead, 3-1. Hertzog factored into all four Penn State goals, assisting on the first two and scoring the last two.

Binghamton came back from the two-goal defecit with senior back Kyle Manscuk scoring in the 64th minute and Halberg scoring his second goal in the 69th minute. Whitehead and sophomore forward Jake Keegan each assisted one of those goals, respectively.

 

No. 15 St. John's 2, Boston U. 1 -- Box Score

Boston University (3-1-1) gave up a second-half goal to No. 15 St. John's, losing, 2-1, for the first time this season.

St. John's got on the board first when freshman forward Dom Sarle scored on an outlet from the keeper, redshirt freshman Rafael Diaz. The goal was Sarle's second of the season.

The Terriers came back late in the second half when senior midfielder Ryan Shea scored off junior midfielder Michael Bustamante's corner to tie the score, 1-1, in the 44th minute.

In the second half, senior midfielder Tadeu Terra scored his third goal of the season unassisted in the 53rd minute, giving the Red Storm a lead, 2-1, which it would not relinquish. Terra's goal came shortly after Boston U. freshman midfielder Derek McCaffrey was ejected with a red card in the 49th minute, leaving the Terriers to play a man down.

The Terriers dominated most statistical categories in the match, outshooting the Red Storm, 21-11, with 11 shots on goal compared to St. John's six. Boston U. also took six corners while St. John's took 1. 

 

Colgate 1, Albany 0 -- Box Score

Albany (2-2-0) gave up a goal late in the second half as it fell, 1-0, at home against Colgate.

Colgate sophomore midfielder Mike Reidy scored his first goal of the season unassisted in the 79th minute to push Colgate past the Great Danes.

Albany was outshot, 12-9 in the match. Colgate had five shots on goal compared to Albany's four. Albany junior keeper Adrian Foncette saved four shots in the match.

Junior back David Pinto took two shots, both on goal, for the Great Danes.
