Hartford Victory Highlights Saturday's Men's Soccer Action; Six Play Sunday

Every gameday throughout the 2010 season, America East will provide a men's soccer update that  previews the day's matchups as well as recaps the previous day's action. The update will also provide links to live coverage, box scores and highlights of select games. Sunday, September 12

New Hampshire vs. Presbyterian, 11 a.m. -- Live Video
The reigning America East regular-season champions will look to stay unbeaten when they face Presbyterian on the second day of Vermont's Smith Barney Classic. The Blue Hose fell, 4-0, to the host Catamounts Friday.

New Hampshire (1-0-2) tied Cornell, 1-1, in its first game of the tournament Friday. After the Big Red got a first half goal, Joe Corsello evened the game in the 73rd minute by one-timing home Josh Bronner's flick off a set piece.

Colin O'Donnell is picking up where he left off last year when he was named America East Goalkeeper of the Year. O'Donnell and the Wildcats have allowed just one goal in three games this season and lead the league with a 0.29 goals-against average.


Cornell at Vermont, 1:30 p.m. --

The Catamounts, who have already tripled last season's win total, can capture their ninth Smith Barney Classic title with a win over the Big Red Sunday.

Vermont (3-1-0), winners of two straight, crushed Presbyterian, 4-0, on Friday. Nick O'Neill, the reigning America East Player of the Week, continued his surge by scoring two goals. He is tied for the league lead with four goals and nine points. Connor O'Brien and Scott Kisling added the other tallies.


Colgate at Albany, 1 p.m. -- Live Stats
The Great Danes will look to rebound from their first loss of 2010 when they fell to NJIT, 3-0, Wednesday.

Albany (2-1-0) has already doubled its win total from last season after posting wins over Fairfield and St. Francis (N.Y.) in its first two games. Sophomore goalkeeper Adrian Foncette leads America East by averaging 6.33 saves per game through three contests. Redshirt freshman Brandon Biggs made five saves in net and ranks second in America East with a 0.47 GAA.


Stony Brook at Dartmouth, 2 p.m. -- Live Stats

The defending champion Seawolves will try to snap a four-game losing skid when they face the host Big Green at the Nike Hypertherm Classic.

Stony Brook (1-4-0) fell to Holy Cross, 3-0, on the first day of the tournament Friday. Freshman Marc Godelman has started all four games and leads the Seawolves with three points on the season.


Binghamton at #15/10 Penn State, 2:30 p.m. -- Live Stats
The Bearcats' brutal schedule continues with their fourth straight ranked opponent to start the 2010 season.

Binghamton (0-3-0) will face No. 15/10 Penn State on the second day of the Penn State Invitational Sunday. On Friday, the Bearcats nearly upset No. 7/11 Ohio State before falling 1-0. The Buckeyes' lone goal came off a penalty kick in the 41st minute.

Binghamton also dropped close contests against nationally-ranked UNC-Wilmington and Monmouth last weekend.


Boston University at #25/15 St. John’s, 8 p.m. -- Live Stats | Live Video
The Terriers look for their second straight win over a Big East opponent Sunday. Last season, Boston U. upset then No. 1 St. John's, 1-0, at Nickerson Field on Stephen Knox's first career game-winning goals.

Boston U. (3-0-1), winners of three straight, upended Seton Hall, 3-0, on Friday. After the Pirates took a 1-0 lead, the Terriers countered with three unanswered goals, including one by Aaron O'Neal, who is tied for the league lead with four scores this season.

Hartford 1, Central Connecticut St. 0-- Box Score | Highlights

The Hartford Hawks earned their second consecutive victory of the season, defeating in-state rival Central Connecticut St. 1-0 at Al-Marzook Field at Stadium.

Neither side created many chances over the course of the game, with the lone goal coming in surprising fashion. In the 5th minute of action, junior forward Patrick Boucher sent in a cross to the box, which Central Connecticut St. goalkeeper Anthony Occhialini fumbled into the net after losing control of the ball. Junior goalkeeper Jordan Bar recorded his second consecutive shutout, improving his record to 2-0 this season.

Hartford now heads out on the road for a three-game road trip. The Hawks open up the trip with a visit to Queens, N.Y. for a match up with No. 25 St. John's.


Navy 2, UMBC 0-- Box Score

UMBC dropped its second straight game, falling 2-0 to Navy in Annapolis, Md. The loss drops the Retrievers record to 2-2 this season.

Despite both sides playing attacking soccer throughout the first half, neither team was able to find the back of the net until the 42nd minute. Navy midfielder Patrick Sopko gave the Midshipmen the lead with his second goal of the season. It remained a 1-0 game until the 73rd minute, when Michael Rakoczy secured the victory for Navy with his first goal of the season. Junior forward Andrew Bulls led the Retrievers in attack, attempting three shots in the loss.

The Retrievers will look to get back to their winning ways when they host La Salle on September 15.
