Boston U. Women's Soccer Defeats No. 22 William & Mary Friday

Boston University 3, No. 22 William & Mary 1 -- Box Score

The Boston University Terriers (3-4-0) opened up play in the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic in Charlottesville, Va., with a runaway win over No. 22 William & Mary.

Boston U. got started early as senior forward Lisa Kevorkian scored an unassisted goal just 44 seconds into the match. Kevorkian added to the Terrier lead in the 26th minute, making the score 2-0. Kevorkian's second goal, her fifth goal of the season, was assisted by junior midfielder Jessica Luscinski.

Luscinski got into the scoring herself in the second half. In the 61st minute, Luscinski took a pass from junior forward Tiya Gallegos and put a shot past Tribe sophomore goaltender Katherine Yount. The goal put the Terriers ahead, 3-0.

Freshman forward Audrey Barry tried to get the Tribe back into the game, scoring her third goal of the season in the 64th minute, assisted by sophomore midfielder Katrina Smedley. However, it was not enough to overcome Boston U.'s early goals as the Terriers went on to win, 3-1.

The win over No. 22 William & Mary is the first for the Terriers against ranked opponents this season.


Stony Brook 2, Sacred Heart 2, 2 OT -- Box Score

After falling behind early in the second half, Stony Brook (0-5-1) fought back to force overtime and earn a 2-2 draw on the road against Sacred Heart.

The teams were scoreless heading into the second half, but Sacred Heart wasted no time getting a lead in the second half. In the 52nd minute, junior forward Amanda Stiles scored on a pass from freshman defender Alyssa Brandofino, giving the Pioneers the lead, 1-0. Just two minutes later, Sacred Heart made the score 2-0 when freshman forward Lucy Gildein scored a goal assisted by junior forward Samantha Kee.

However, Stony Brook did not give up, scoring two quick goals of its own later in the half. Sophomore midfielder Sa'sha Kershaw scored on a penalty kick in the 67th minute, cutting the lead in half, 2-1. Two minutes later, junior midfielder Dominique Adamo put a shot into the back of the net off a pass from junior midfielder Holly Razzaghi, knotting the score, 2-2. The score remained tied through two overtime periods, ending the match in a draw.


Syracuse 3, Albany 2 -- Box Score

Giving up a goal late in regulation, the Albany Great Danes (3-3-0) dropped a heartbreaker at home to Syracuse, 3-2.

The tipping point came in the 90th minute, as Syracuse sophomore midfielder Tina Romagnuolo scored unassisted to give the Orange a lead, 3-2, and 50 seconds later, a win.

Romagnuolo's goal was the culmination of a string of goals in the last 14 minutes of the match.

Albany had a 1-0 lead thanks to sophomore forward Shayla Bergeron's goal in the 53rd minute, assisted by redshirt freshman back Jess Baccaglini.

Syracuse tied the game in the 77th minute when Romagnuolo scored her first goal of the game. Less than one minute later, Albany retook the lead, 2-1, on a goal by junior midfielder Rebecca Lee. However, the lead was short-lived, with Syracuse senior forward Megan Bellingham, who assisted on Romagnuolo's earlier goal, scoring in the 82nd minute. Then, Romagnuolo's last minute goal earned the win for the Orange.

 

Florida Gulf Coast 2, Vermont 0 -- Box Score

Playing in a weekend tournament in West Point, N.Y., the Vermont Catamounts (1-3-0) came out on the losing end of a 2-0 score against Florida Gulf Coast.

Florida Gulf Coast scored first, in the 17th minute, when senior midfielder Caytlan MacKenzie put a shot past Catamount sophomore keeper Alyssa Kelly. MacKenzie was assisted on the play by freshman forward Jenci Villaverde.

Villaverde then added to the lead in the 51st minute off a pass from Jenni Crittenberger. The goal gave Florida Gulf Coast a 2-0 lead, which they held the rest of the way.

Vermont was outshot in the match, 20-11. However, the Catamount offense put a lot of pressure on the Eagle defense, with eight shots on goal.



Massachusetts 2, New Hampshire 1, 2 OT -- Box Score

After scoring in the 81st minute to take a lead in the match, New Hampshire (2-2-2) gave up two late goals, eventually losing to Massachusetts in double overtime, 2-1.

Junior forward Jordyn Krall took a cross from junior midfielder Alli Rozelle in the 82nd minute to break a scoreless tie.

However, the Wildcats were unable to hang on to that lead, giving up a goal to junior midfielder Meghan Collins in the 88th minute. The score remained tied, 1-1, into the second overtime, until senior midfielder Ashley Hamel scored the gamewinner in the 107th minute.

Despite letting two late goals past, freshman keeper Erica Correa had a stellar match, saving 10 of the 12 shots she faced in more than 106 minutes in net.

 

Princeton 1, Hartford 0, OT -- Box Score

Hartford (1-5-0) played visiting Princeton to a scoreless draw in regulation, but lost to the Tigers, 1-0, in sudden victory overtime.

Princeton sophomore midfielder Caitlin Blosser scored the lone goal in the match in the 97th minute, giving the Tigers the victory on the road.

Hartford had a difficult night offensively, taking just four shots with two shots on goal. Junior forward Breeanna Robinson took two of those shots, putting one of her shots on net.

Hartford junior keeper Lauren Brodeur saved five shots in the match.
