Eight Women's Soccer Teams Take the Field on Sunday

Every gameday throughout the 2010 season, America East will provide a women's soccer update that  previews the day's matchups as well as recaps the previous day's action. The update will also provide links to live coverage, box scores and highlights of select games. Sunday, August 28

New Hampshire vs. Rider, 11 a.m.-- Live Video

The Wildcats will look to continue their best start to a season since 2001 when they face Rider in the TD Bank Classic at Vermont.  This will be the first meeting between the two programs.

New Hampshire opened the TD Bank Classic with an impressive 2-1 victory over La Salle University. Junior forward Alyssa Michel dished out her second assist of the season when she setup sophomore forward Drea Nogueira for the opening goal. After La Salle tied the game in the 67th minute it appeared the game was headed for OT. However, senior midfielder Amy Avitabile secured the victory with a goal in the 85th minute.

Rider opened its season with a heartbreaking 2-1 (2OT) loss to Vermont in their opening game at the TD Bank Classic. Senior forward Kara Perkoski gave the Broncs the lead in the first half, but the Catamounts rallied with goals from Jessica Becker and Haley Marks to pull out the thrilling victory.

Binghamton at Sacred Heart, 1 p.m.-- Live Stats

Binghamton University will look to secure its first win of the season when they pay a visit to Sacred Heart. The Bearcats fell 2-0 in their opener against Fairfield.

In the defeat, Binghamton received a great performance from freshman keeper Carrie Martin. In her collegiate debut, Martin made three saves to help keep the Bearcats in the game. Junior defender Keri Iheagwara made an excellent impact off the bench, playing tough defense and earning the America East Player of the Game.

The matchup with Binghamton will mark the end of a four-game homestand for Sacred Heart. The Pioneers are coming off a 4-3 victory over St. Peter’s, which improved their record to 2-1-0 this season.

Hartford at Temple, 1 p.m.--Live Stats

The University of Hartford will look to close out the Temple Owls Tournament with an undefeated record when they face the host Temple Owls.

The Hawks earned their first victory of the season with the 2-0 victory over Drexel in the opening game of the Temple Owls Tournament. Freshman forward Arielle Aikens gave Hartford the lead with her first career goal in the 10th minute. Junior forward Breeanna Robinson put the game away with her first goal of the season in the 45th minute.

Temple fell to Niagara in its opening game of the tournament. The 2-1 loss dropped the Owls record to 1-2-0 this season.

Maine at The Citadel, 1 p.m.-- Live Stats

The University of Maine will look to end its two-game losing streak when they close out a four-game road trip with a visit to The Citadel.

The Black Bears enter this matchup coming off a disappointing 2-1 loss against Charleston Southern. Junior forward Carolyne Nellis gave Maine the lead in the 27th minute, but Charleston Southern answered with a goal in the 42nd minute to tie the game before halftime. The Lady Bucs took the lead in the 53rd minute and held on for the victory.

The Citadel opened its season with a 3-0 loss against Jacksonville. The Bulldogs were outshot 19-5 in the defeat.

Stony Brook at Iona, 1 p.m.--  Live Video ; Live Stats

Stony Brook will continue to search for its first win of the season when they travel to New Rochelle, N.Y. to face the Iona Gaels.

The Seawolves are coming off an exhilarating 4-2 loss against Siena in their home opener. After a scoreless first half, senior defender Debbie Aller gave Stony Brook the lead in the 51st minute. The Saints answered with two goals, before junior midfielder Rachel Silverman tied the game in the 68th minute. However, Siena scored two goals in the final 13 minutes to pull away for the victory.

Iona will hope to rebound from its disappointing start to the season, which has seen the Gaels lose their first three games. The Gaels have been outscored 14-0 in their three losses this season.

Albany vs Portland St., 1:30 p.m.-- Live Stats

After falling 5-2 against UNLV in their season-opener, the Great Danes match up with Portland St. in the final game of the Las Vegas Tournament.

Albany got off to a terrific start in its opening game of the Las Vegas Tournament, jumping out to a lead in the 1st minute courtesy of a goal from sophomore midfielder Shayla Bergeron. Unfortunately, the Great Danes could find no answer for UNLV senior forward Ashleigh Shoughro, who scored four goals in the 5-2 victory.

The Vikings beat the University of Louisiana at Monroe in their opening game at the Las Vegas Tournament to earn their first victory of the season. The 3-2 (2OT) victory was the first overtime victory for Portland St. since 2006.

La Salle at Vermont, 1:30 p.m.-- Live Video

After opening their season with a 2-1 (2OT) win over Rider, the Catamounts will look to secure another victory at the TD Bank Classic when they face La Salle University.

Despite facing a 1-0 deficit late in the game against Rider, Vermont scored two late goals to open its season with a victory. Senior forward Jessica Baker tied the game for the Catamounts in the 82nd minute. With the game seemingly headed for a draw, freshman forward/midfielder Haley Marks gave Vermont the win with her goal in the 104th minute.

La Salle dropped its opening game of the TD Bank Classic, falling 2-1 against the University of New Hampshire. The loss to New Hampshire was the first of the season for the Explorers, as they opened the season with a 5-0 win against Canisius.

Washington at Boston University, 8 p.m.-- Live Video ; Live Stats

The Terriers continue their grueling start to the 2010/2011 season when they host the University of Washington Huskies. This will be the Terriers second match up against Pac-10 competition this season, as they hosted Stanford on August 22.

Boston University picked up its first win of the season with 3-0 dismantling of American University. Graduate student Lisa Kevorkian scored two goals in the victory and now leads the team with three goals this season.  Junior midfielder Tiya Gallegos added her first goal of the season to help propel the Terriers to the win.

The Huskies have opened their season with two shutout victories, including a 3-0 victory against the University of Massachusetts. This is the second-straight season the Huskies have won their first two games of the season.
