Senior Cassie Guerra scored with less than 15 minutes remaining to help New Hampshire earn a 1-1 tie against Rhode Island in its season opener on Tuesday.
Guerra, whose goal was the third of her career, blasted a shot home from the top of the box to tie the game just 14:49 after URI had taken a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Monique Lamotte, a second-team all-conference honoree as a freshman, brought the ball down the middle of the field and left it for junior Alyssa Michel, who centered the ball to Guerra.
Freshman goalkeeper Erica Correa made three save in her collegiate debut for the Wildcats, who are next in action Friday against Las Salle at Vermont's TD Bank Classic.
at Fordham 2, Maine 0 -- Box Score
Senior Michelle Ancelj scored a pair of goals to lead Fordham past Maine, 2-0, on Tuesday.
Anjelj, who has 14 career goals including five game winners, struck first in the 36th minute as she picked up a loose ball outside the box and went in uncontested for the score. She added an insurance tally with just 8:49 remaining off a feed from teammate Katie McDermott.
The Black Bears, who downed Iona 4-0 in their season opener Saturday, registered three shots and none on net. Redshirt freshman Iris Gunnarsdottir made her first career start in net for Maine and had three saves.
