Maine 4, Iona 0 -- Box Score
The wet weather in New Rochelle, N.Y. did not dampen the Maine offense, as the Black Bears went on to defeat Iona College, 4-0.
Junior defender Sady Tobin started the scoring attack for the Black Bears in the 18th minute off a cross from freshman midfielder Nikki Misener. The goal was the first of Tobin's collegiate career.
Junior forward Courtney Harnais and freshman defender Lisa Bijman also scored their first career goals, respectively. Harnais scored in the 39th minute to put Maine up, 2-0. Bijman's tally came in the 67th minute, giving the Black Bears a 4-0 cushion.
Sophomore midfielder Maddie Hill also scored in the 55th minute after a free kick by sophomore midfielder Stephanie Frenette-Blais. Sophomore goalkeeper Meagan Price-Leibenzeder earned the shutout in net, the eighth of her career, with three saves in the match.
Stanford 2, Boston U. 1 -- Box Score
Boston University could not come back from an early deficit against No. 2 Stanford, losing to the Cardinal, 2-1, at home.
Stanford jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first 21 minutes of the game. Freshman forward Sydney Payne scored in the 15th minute to put Stanford up, 1-0. Six minutes later, senior forward Christen Press put a shot past Boston freshman keeper Kelly King to give the Cardinal a two-goal lead.
Boston senior forward Lisa Kevorkian cut that lead in half in the 35th minute, scoring her first goal of the season. Senior back Corie Halasz assisted on the goal to make the score 2-1 going into the half.
That was all the offense the Terriers could muster as they were outshot, 21-7, in the match. Just two of those shots were on goal. The Cardinal put nine shots on net. Junior goalkeeper Alice Binns, who once again replaced Kelly at halftime, saved all five shots on goal in the second half.
The 2-1 loss is the Terriers' second one-goal defeat to a ranked opponent in as many games to open the season. Boston lost to No. 12 South Carolina Friday.
Drexel 1, UMBC 0 -- Box Score
A late Drexel goal proved to be the difference in UMBC's first loss of the season on the road in Philadelphia, Pa.
In the 84th minute, junior forward Ashley Klun scored the lone goal of the contest to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead. Freshman defender Andi Stampone assisted on the game-winning goal.
The goal was the only blemish to an otherwise solid afternoon for the Retrievers' freshman keeper, Lauren Kadet. Kadet had 11 saves in the match, her collegiate debut, including eight in the second half.
Drexel outshot UMBC, 18-9, with 12 of its shots on goal to just two for the Retrievers. Both of the Retrievers' shots on goal were taken by sophomore Rachel McKee. McKee had four shots total in the match.
