BRISTOL, Conn. -- For the first time, an America East men's basketball team will participate in ESPN's College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon. Stony Brook University will travel to Monmouth, N.J. and face the Hawks on Nov. 16 at 6 a.m.
The Seawolves are coming off their best season at the Divison I level after winning 22 games and their first ever America East regular-season title. Stony Brook, who return four starters from the 2009 squad, also made its first postseason appearance last season, hosting Illinois in a first-round NIT contest. Tommy Brenton and Brian Dougher return for their junior seasons after earning second-team all-conference honors as sophomores.
The marathon is highlighted by 12 televised college basketball games over 24 consecutive hours. Overall, ESPN's celebration of the start of the college basketball season will include 20 live games on ESPN, ESPN2 , ESPNU and ESPN3.com. The participants include both the men's and women's national champion from a year ago, Duke and UConn, and three other Final Four teams: Butler and Michigan State men and Baylor women.
