Three America East outdoor track & field performers were tabbed All-Americans by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) earlier this week. A total of 523 awards were presented to the 428 individuals as a
result of a national top-eight finish in last weekend’s NCAA
Division I Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. In addition, the top
eight finishing athletes among U.S. citizens from the NCAA
Championships gained All-America status.
Boston University senior Andrea Walkonen (Jaffrey, N.H.) finished off her collegiate career with a ninth-place finish in the 10,000 meters, her highest finish at the outdoor meet. It is her third overall All-American distinction, having earned it during the 2009 indoor track and cross country meets as well.
Stony Brook juniors Holly and Lucy Van Dalen (Waganui, New Zealand) became the school's first Division I track All-Americans with their impressive performances at the NCAA meet. Holly accomplished the feat first, finishing the 5,000 meters seventh and setting a new school record with a time of 16:06.77. Sister Lucy ran in the 1,500 meters final the next day, placing eighth to also earn the prestigious honor. She finished the race in 4:18.42.
University of Maine sophomore Rily Masters (Bangor, Maine) and University of New Hampshire senior Ashlee Lathrop (Sherburne, N.Y.). Masters advanced to the final of the men's 1,500 meters and finished 11th in front of a national television audience, while Lathop placed 15th in the women's hammer throw earlier in the meet.
