Of the six Division I conferences that receive an automatic qualifier (America East, CAA, ECAC, Ivy, MAAC, Patriot) to the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship, America East is the only one to have three different programs reach the NCAA quarterfinal round within the last four years. Albany and UMBC won first-round contests, over Loyola and Maryland, respectively, in 2007. RECAP

Stony Brook (13-3), which has the nation's longest win streak at nine games, earned its first-ever NCAA victory by beating Denver, 9-7, last weekend. Seniors Kevin Crowley, the America East Player of the Year and a finalist for the prestigious Tewaaraton Trophy, and Tom Compitello each scored three goals. The tandem was also featured on ESPN SportsCenter Top 10 plays as Compitello's wrap-around score came in at No. 5 and Crowley's behind-the-back goal was chosen the top play.

Virginia (14-1), the country's top-ranked team, downed Mount St. Mary's, 18-5, in its first-round matchup. The Cavaliers knocked off Stony Brook, 13-7, earlier this season.
