Two of the four America East Championship bids have come down to the final weekend of the regular season will be decided Saturday night in Stony Brook and Albany, respectively. Additionally, the other league contest, Hartford at UMBC will be televised nationally on ESPNU.
Stony Brook (9-3, AE 4-0), the nation's eighth-ranked squad, will host Vermont (3-11, AE 2-2) at LaValle Stadium at 7 p.m. and can wrap up an outright regular-season title with a win over the Catamounts. UVM can secure its first America East tournament berth since 2003 with a victory.
Albany (3-10, AE 2-2) also controls its own destiny and can earn of championship bid for the ninth straight year with a win over Binghamton (3-10, AE 1-3) at 7 p.m. at John Fallon Field. The game will be televised in the Capital Region on TW3. The Bearcats would make the tournament with a straight-up win over Albany, should Vermont beat Stony Brook, but would have to beat the Great Danes by a margin of four or more should the Cats' fall.
UMBC (4-9, AE 3-1) has already locked up the No. 2 seed for the championship and would earn a share of the regular-season title with a win and a Stony Brook loss. The game, which will be played at 12 p.m. at UMBC Stadium, will be televised on nationally on ESPNU. Hartford (3-10, AE 0-4) has been eliminated from postseason consideration, but has proven it can play the role of spoiler. The Hawks upset then No. 6 UMBC, 10-8, last season.
The 2010 America East Men's Lacrosse Championship will take place May 5 and 8. Stony Brook and UMBC will each host a semifinal contest on May 5 with the game times to be determined.
