Vermont's Philie Chosen Men's Lacrosse Fans' Choice Player of the Year

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- University of Vermont's Drew Philie has been chosen the America East Men's Lacrosse Fans' Choice Players of the Year, as selected in a fan vote conducted on the conference's website and announced Thursday afternoon. 

Philie, a freshman attack for Catamounts, ranks fourth among America East leaders with 50 points, is tied for third with 22 assists and tied for fourth with 28 goals. His 22 points in four league games are tied for second-best, while he's first with 11 assists. A two-time America East Rookie of the Week,
Philie has tallied 15 goals and five assists in his last three games. He also tied the league's single-game record with eight assists in a win over Binghamton on April 3 and has led Vermont to multiple league wins for the first time since 2005. The Catamounts can clinch their first America East Championship berth since 2005 with a win over Stony Brook Saturday.

Philie, who was one of 12 finalists for the award, received 48.8 percent of the vote, garnering 935 of 1,914 tallies. He was followed by Stony Brook's Jordan McBride (249) and UMBC's Kyle Wimer (205).

The America East Men's Lacrosse Championship will take place next week with the men's semifinals set for Wednesday, May 5 and the finals set for Saturday, May 8.
